Legendary Porn Director Cecil Howard Dead at 85
AVN has reported that Golden Age porn director Cecil Howard died in his sleep at his home in New York state last week. Sigh. Wow, the hits just keep coming this year, don't they?
Howard was a hugely influential director in the 1980s with his 1984 film "Scoundrels" winning the Best Picture award at the very new (at the time) AVN Awards Show. His films included critically acclaimed and award-receiving classics like "Neon Nights", "Snake Eyes", "Star Angel" and others. He directed a little over 30 movies total in his career and was fiercely protective of his brand and his company - Command Video - throughout his career, which unfortunately contributes to his stuff not being all that available at present.
He was AVN's very first Best Director winner for "Scoundrels" as well. He cast a who's who of top performers of the day in his movies - Vanessa Del Rio, Sharon Mitchell, Sharon Kane, Veronica Hart, Jamie Gillis, and Nina Hartley, among others - and was well-known for being a perfectionist on set who required multiple takes of just about everything to make sure that everything came out just the way that he wanted fans to see them.
