By all that is unholy and smutty, PLEASE clean your toys!

We’re here to talk dirty! Okay, Naomi, you spend all day talking dirty here on Fleshbot, what’s the difference now? We’re talking the bad kind of dirty here, folks. Bacteria, viruses, fungus, dried up lube, dead skin cells, cat hair, food crumbs…. Or any other kind of nasty stuff that could be on your toys right before you use them. You should be cleaning them after use and before using them again, especially if they’ve been sitting awhile, or are being used on different people. But how does one clean these things? That’s where the awesome folks at Wicked Sensual Care come in! I tested out their Foam N’ Fresh Anti-Bacterial Foaming Toy Cleaner, available at the Fleshbot Store for about $11 for an 8 oz pump bottle.  This product is suitable for all toy materials. It’s anti-bacterial, paraben-free, and doesn’t contain Triclosan or alcohol among its sanitizing ingredients. Although it contains extracts of olive leaf, thyme, and lavender for the antibacterial benefits, the product has no scent. If foam doesn’t work for you, a very similar product called Cleene, which is a spray, is also available from Wicked Sensual Care.

Regular soap and water will do in a pinch to clean toys, but hand or dish soap has things it in that are good for hands, like moisturizers, and also lots of hand soap is scented. Your favorite giant dildo does not need moisturizing, and do you really want him to smell like Winter Candy Apple? Especially for toys made of porous material that will hold scent or even colorants from the soap, a colorless, fragrance free, residue-free option with only the things you need to clean and sanitize the toy is best. Now because you may not read the label when trying to get your toys clean in a rush pre or post fun time, I’ll summarize the toy cleaning process. Apply the foam directly to the toy and smooth it to cover the whole surface. Let it sit for 10-15 seconds to sterilize it, then rinse with warm water and dry your toy thoroughly before storing it.

The label says the toy cleaner is not really intended for extended use on skin, which can be confusing if you leave it on the sink because it looks like a foaming hand soap bottle. It’s probably not harmful, or else you couldn’t use it while washing the toys, but it could dry out your skin if used to wash your hands too often so maybe stow it in a bathroom cabinet.
