A lot of Joy Bear features have a plot, or at least recurring segments that bridge the gap between the five scenes they put on each feature. This one does not. There’s no real set up or introductory content here, it’s just five scenes of lesbians doing what lesbians do best. But honestly, you don’t need anything else here. The five scenes are all nicely shot, as the studio’s content typically is, with almost as much emphasis put on facial reactions as on gynecological close-ups. They’re often referred to as a studio that makes couples' films, and that’s fair as they definitely do make porno movies that are just as (if not more) easily appreciated by women as by men, and the cinematography and production values in this picture are impressive.

Here’s the obligatory breakdown:

Scene 1 – Angell Summers, Samantha Bentley: This scene, featuring two raven-haired beauties, starts off with a bit of kissing but it doesn't take long before Angell gets Samantha's pants down so she can go down on her shaved box. Properly warmed up now, Samantha, also shaved, gets Angell naked and returns the oral favors, using her fingers on her as well. After that, they finger one another for a while and go in for a bit of sixty-nine action. As the scene goes on, they take turns pleasing each other with fingers and tongues, each participant getting a chance to have a few quality orgasms before it's all over. This is a great way to open the feature, the fact that the two ladies in the scene look similar somehow adding to its hotness? Either way, it feels very believable and is quite sexy.

Scene 2 – Tiffany Doll, Lexi Lowe: Blonde Lexi is the aggressor when this scene starts, sitting on brunette Tiffany’s lap and kissing her passionately. Scene 5 – Jess West, Satine Spark: Blonde Satine and dark-haired Jess each make return appearances in this fifth and final scene. Satine is dressed in a riding outfit and Jess in a farm hand's duds. Overall, if you’re the type of adult film viewer that enjoys watching attractive women go at it, and you can appreciate strong production values and quality cinematography along with your bumping and grinding and sucking and fucking, you’ll probably appreciate this. It isn’t a typical gonzo style lesbian picture, as it moves at a languid pace and features women who seem to be legitimately attracted to one another going at it. It never gets particularly rough or nasty, there’s no anal here, and only mild (but appreciable) kink in the fourth scene, but it feels a lot more realistic than much of the competition ever does. The fact that the actresses are allowed to take their time and enjoy themselves rather than scream and moan in fake ecstasy for the camera as is so common in many modern adult features, it gives this one a more realistic feeling than you might expect it to have, and it’s that realistic feeling that makes this an enjoyably sexy slice of sapphic sinema.

Women Love Women was shot digitally and arrives on DVD framed at 1.78.1 widescreen looking quite nice. Colors are bold and bright and nicely defined without looking boosted or oversaturated. Detail is quite strong through, flesh tones look accurate and always very lifelike, and black levels are solid. It’s quite a nice transfer overall, though some minor compression artifacts do pop up here and there if you’re looking for them.

The Audio:

The English language Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track sounds fine. There are no alternate language or subtitle options offered on the disc. No issues here, the track is nicely balanced and the very minimal dialogue is clean (there is no narration and only a few lines between performers). The score, which is minimalist and used quite sparingly, sounds good and there are no issues with any hiss or distortion.

The Extras:

The only extra on the disc is a stills gallery, though the disc also includes menus and scene selection.

Final Thoughts:

Women Love Women is a classy, nicely produced lesbian picture that features a bevy of attractive and (mostly) natural women involved in beautifully composed and nicely shot scenes of hardcore depravity. It’s a kinder, gentler type of lesbian picture than most modern content, emphasizing reaction as much as action, but it’s pretty stirring and quite a bit more believable than a lot of the content coming from other studios. Joy Bear’s DVD looks and sounds quite nice, and even if the extra is uninspired, it’s comes recommended for those who appreciate sex with style. Highly recommended.
