Extras: The main extra were the informative Behind the Scenes features by Nick Ventura, Jeff Mullen, & Scott David (part 1 lasting 20:31 minutes and part 2 lasting 19 minutes even). My favorite part (other than the extra sex footage) included the part where Andy San Dimas went into great detail about how lame some parodies are these days (mirroring my own comments to a degree). Then came a 26:37 minute long director/producer travelogue by Will Ryder and Scott David; the guys touching on many bases regarding making the movie. This was followed by a 25:56 minute long feature on the Making of the Soundtrack (mostly Jeff talking but Sinned Lotta Dees, and Rock were in evidence too). There were seven trailers, a FSC anti-piracy commercial, a slide show, and the ability to replay the DVD intro.

Audio/Video Quality: Rocky XXX was presented in anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen as shot by director Will Ryder for X-Play to be distributed by Adam & Eve. Ryder and his partner Scott David have led the masses in porn parodies for years, garnering scores of accolades and formal awards from all the usual sources as a result. This project was no different and the care put into it by Art Director Scott David showed he is still on top of his game, the visual elements enhanced by a lot of work to fit right into the look of the original three movies. The editing by Mark DaWop, particularly during the sex scenes, had a lot of care displayed and the lighting was enough to minimize the grain and other visual aspects in a most positive manner. This standard definition version looked good even with a video bitrate hovering around the 4.5 Mbps range (when spot checked), the colors and contrasts appealing throughout the show. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps audio bitrate, sounding very crisp and clear during the dialogue portions, the music close enough a copy of the original that to the untrained ear, it sounded almost identical to the original tracks from the first three Rocky movies (thanks no doubt to Jeff Mullen and Rock Hardson and their work at the BBE Studio in Los Angeles). By comparison, few features in porn (parodies or not) ever spend any time on the aural portions of the flick, the blending of clear vocals, ambient noises, and some of the best music work to date was what kicked this one up a notch or two for me. Nice!

Body of Review: Will Ryder and partner Scott David were at the forefront of the parody craze that currently envelopes the porn industry, igniting a renewed appreciation for a genre that essentially started with the birth of modern porn back in the 1970’s. As someone who enjoys a well made parody, I have come to appreciate the difference between the quality levels Will instills in most of his works, my belief multiplied every time I see some poorly made budget hack job by a competitor. The good news is that in recent times, there are a growing number of directors willing to emulate Will’s style by providing better parodies from companies such as Adam & Eve, but even those willing to buy acclaim via advertising or favorable treatment to certain press outlets lack Will’s consistency. Now that the deadline for the AVN awards is upon us, all the truly substantial efforts by companies should be coming out, one such winner being Rocky XXX. As this is a departure from X-Play’s usual efforts of parodying television comedies, I was interested in seeing just which of the six mainstream Rocky movies he would select elements from, the answer coming quickly when the advertising came out discussing Apollo Creed (Mr. Marcus) & Clubber Lang (Tyler Knight) but I had doubts about Anthony Rosano as the lead (Rocky Balboa) due to his size and general shape if nothing else. Needless to say, it was still an enjoyable romp with just enough touches from the original to merit “parody” status while the emphasis on sexual trysts should satisfy our primary reason for picking up a copy (especially those wanting to see some interracial nookie courtesy of lovely Lily LaBeau and Chastity Lynn doing Tyler Knight and Mr. Marcus respectively).

Rocky XXX a Parody Thriller from Adam & Eve Pictures and X-Play” So going into the show, I was curious if X-Play’s deal with Adam & Eve would water down the successful effort to pornify Rocky or if the show would prevail given the intensity of Will and Scott’s efforts. Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

The Fights!

Scene One: Andy San Dimas, playing the mousey role of Adrian, was up first as the frigid character on the couch with Anthony “Rocky” Rosano. I expected a full scene but it was oral only, the twist this time being that Anthony spent the entire scene (albeit a brief one) going down on Andy to get her off using his tongue and fingers. As an establishing sex scene, it worked nicely as it left me wanting much, much more (which came later, of course).

Scene Two: Chastity Lynn, a curvy blond with a nice smile and great ass, was up next servicing Mr. Marcus (as Apollo Creed) with their own brand of cardiovascular training. Tyler is another gem in the rough when it comes to feature roles, rarely getting his due but certainly living up to and surpassing all expectations when given half a chance. Media Accolades

Summary: Rocky XXX by director Will Ryder for Adam & Eve was another winner parody by the X-Play team, meriting a rating of Highly Recommended or better depending on your personal tastes. Whatever minor quibbles one might have over specific details, the casting of the leads, the quality of the sex, and the extensive extras certainly made this one a contender for all the usual awards coming up. Sexually, Lily LaBeau, Chastity Lynn, and Madison Ivy were great and Andy San Dimas proved once more that she could carry a parody role very nicely, even in such a male dominated fuck flick. A special nod to Anthony, Tyler, and Marcus seems appropriate too but considering how much ground was covered, Rocky XXX was much better than similar efforts to parody the mainstream series, perhaps a sequel focusing solely on Rocky 4 might be a good idea as a future project. In any case, the advertised “Cinematic Genius” might be an overstatement but on a porn sized budget, X-Play pulled off a lot more than the usual suspects in the field so check it out.
