Audio/Video Quality: Butthole Whores 4 was presented in the usual anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Aiden Riley for Evil Angel. The lighting varied wildly by scene but all of the action was easily visible on my big screen television, a great deal of footage looking terribly washed out before other portions would be way too dark. The camera work was about as fluid as most of Aiden’s works from the last few years too, no one watching his movies that I’ve spoken to particularly concerned with how well he shoots footage (just glad that he does such a good job casting to partially make up for it). There was a company watermark on the lower right hand corner of the movie at all times and it did not seem like much care was used in framing the camera work to minimize its impact but again, the quality of casting helped minimize this aspect of the movie too. In any case, the audio was presented in a similar fashion with a 2.0 Dolby Digital English offering that sounded hollow with no separation between the channels and no music to bore you with. Still, it was not significantly worse aurally than most gonzo titles out at this time, the sonic portion less important to most fans than the visuals.

Body of Review: Aiden Riley has built a following as a director at Evil Angel, his latest title in for review is the newly released Butthole Whores 4, a set of four lengthy scenes starring some very sexy, occasionally underrated, starlets proving their back door street credibility with male partners. Frankly, as soon as I saw Carter Cruise and Vicki Chase listed on the cover I was sold to review this one, the inclusion of Jodi Taylor and Gabriella Paltrova bonuses too, Aiden’s usual propensity to shoot lesbian fuck flicks apparently overcome by the need to pay the rent. Now it’s been a long time since the third volume of the series came out, it was an award nominee in 2008 I believe, and that title was not nearly as lengthy as this one but the caveat to remember is that Aiden boosts his running time by including all BTS footage into the movie itself, a practice that many of my associates take him to task for either in reviews or at voting time. I like the footage myself though I see their point about watching it once and rarely going back to it, the need to skip it on subsequent viewing not welcome in most cases, the technical values another point of contention the fanboy reviewers rarely seem to dwell upon (and for good reason if kissing up is more important than the readers).

Summary: Butthole Whores 4 by director Aiden Riley for Evil Angel had a great deal of washed out footage where the lighting was too strong, a cramped look at times because the same old loft apparently isn’t large enough to allow the director to maneuver around as well as an open studio, and a wealth of visual missed opportunities yet in my years of watching Aiden’s works for review or at voting time, I’d be lying if I said his casting of partners with lots of passion and chemistry did not offset the technical values (and I’m one of the few that say much about such aspects because they DO matter). Despite the technical issues, I thought the movie earned a rating of Recommended thanks to some heated sexual trysts, the movie would have been rated higher except for my concerns. Carter Cruise looked great, Vicki Chase showed what an excellent extreme queen she could be, Jodi Taylor was as playful here as ever, and Gabriella Paltrova continued to earn her place with a combination of sexy moves and sleek body I adore so much. In short, Butthole Whores 4 showcased a variety of talent such as Jodi Taylor, Carter Cruise, Vicki Chase, and Gabriella Paltrova in enthusiastic trysts worth checking out, just don’t expect to the material to look as good as the more technically adept directors at the company and you’ll be fine.
