Note: The following is a “quickie review” of a compilation comprised of much older scenes, many of which are not otherwise available on DVD. The technical values of the scenes do not hold up well compared to modern standards but there was a lot of great fucking taking place, world renowned director Joey Silvera participating on both sides of the camera at times; a plethora of top notch ladies included in the 18 scenes.

Audio/Video Quality: The True History of Fashion Sluts was presented in 1.33:1 ratio full frame as the scenes were originally shot by director Joey Silvera for Evil Angel. The early scenes were especially prone to looking like grainy home movies or third generation VHS tapes, some macroblocking, moiré, and color distortion apparent in the various scenes. The audio was on the hollow side and while presumably cleaned up for the DVD mastering process, was still on the weak side in terms of the vocals and background noises. Still, the sexual heat of the 18 trysts was enough to make me press onward and upward here.

Body of Review: Joey Silvera has been a force in porn for generations now, his exploits in front of the camera long appreciated by me just as his more modern work as a director showing me that a broad diversity of spank bank material is available from his catalog at Evil Angel. His latest release is a compilation of 18 scenes from his “Fashion Sluts” series, the volumes included in this compilation coming onto the VHS market between 1995 and 2000, the show called The True History of Fashion Sluts. I haven’t seen any of these scenes in years but I recall the handful I had encountered as being full of energy, enthusiasm, and a lot of hardcore gonzo sexual trysts, the amounts of genetic juice, population pudding, and spunk inspired back then to merit a nod now that most of the scenes are seeing the light of day on DVD only now. The company website described the movie like this: “Legendary XXX filmmaker-performer Joey Silvera spent the 1990s transitioning from his long career as a top porn stud to his then-new vocation of director, producing memorable gonzo masterworks with his beloved "Fashion Sluts" series for Evil Angel. In gathering his new two-disc compilation of classic material, "The True History of Fashion Sluts," Joey unearthed a treasure trove of erotic history. Most of these pioneering scenes have been long unavailable in digital form. Summary: The True History of Fashion Sluts by director Joey Silvera for Evil Angel is historical on several levels, much of the still popular gonzo craze derived from series like this, the fun factor and plethora of popular blast from the past babes sure to float the boat of many new fans. There were certain key scenes for me as a fan and critic to appreciate even more than usual, the fact that most of the ladies were not all shot out when the original scenes were shot making it a time capsule well worth considering for purchase, the rating of Recommended earned for the double disc’s lengthy (nearly seven hours!) set of great scenes. The technical aspects did bug me a number of times but the ladies were all well worth repeated viewings and the tease was superb in many cases, the back to basics way so much of the footage was shot working for me. In short, The True History of Fashion Sluts was an excellent primer on a time tested series that focused on introducing newcomers, perhaps someday the entire set will be released for collectors (if only in digital download format, at least that would give fans better access).
