Extras: The extras were broken up into two sections, a 41:15 minute long feature called “Lost Footage” and 18:24 minutes of cast interviews. Contrary to the box cover, there was no photogallery or trailers, no big loss as far as I’m concerned but given the possibility that someone might be upset over it, I felt it was worth mentioning (after all, a few mopes obsessed over what they perceived as a “major” slight when another company did not provide a positions menu in the way they wanted it). That said, the BTS was a lot of fun and included additional sex, the interviews going back and forth between the cast of ladies included.

Audio/Video Quality: Shane’s World 42 was presented in 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen as shot by the crew of Shane’s World, cameramen like Eddie Powell and Smokey on hand to insure the best possible visuals were recorded during the travel to the Bahamas. The DVD was presented in the familiar MPEG-2 codec, some of the issues with this type of unscripted gonzo offering such as grain in the night scenes (also lack of traditional lighting at times) balanced out with numerous moments offered up in broad daylight, the net effect making this something of an upgrade from the typical Shane’s World titles I have extolled the virtues about time and again over the years. The company is best known for projects like this in where they travel with a small group of performers, set out very vague guidelines, and then shoot a ton of footage, which includes both sexual encounters and the cast having a good time, to be ponderously edited back at home. The better efforts manage to balance the fun factor non-sex exploits with the chemistry filled sexual trysts, definitely offering an alternative to the kind of porn your parents probably enjoyed decades ago. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps bitrate, the vocals clearly understood except during certain outdoor scenes when the wind was howling. It was clear that attempts were made to capture the sonic experience as though the viewer were there rather than dub in vocals later too, the musical interludes few & far between though the theme song was credited to Paz.

Body of Review: Shane’s World has long been a favored company of mine for the types of youth-oriented porn they offered the public, the college themed excursions and travelogue outings copied so many times by others that it is wise to remember how the company started up years ago. Over the years, the company has been distributed by others and paired off with others in a way that did not always make sense to me but now they have put a long time industry powerhouse in charge of the show, I expect things will get better. It has been the better part of two years since the last travelogue show by the company was released but Shane’s World 42: Paradise Island showed that getting the right technical crew in place can make a world of difference, the company sponsoring a trip to the Bahamas headed up by Tori Black this time. Of the ladies, she was the only one with true name recognition but Brooklyn Lee and Vanessa Cage were no slouches in the sex department, the men this time being seasoned veteran pretty boy Johnny Castle and his sidekick, Michael Vegas. I’ll admit that Tori has long been hit or miss for me so fans can automatically add a few points as they see fit, the general dynamic being for the cast to have a good time while the crew caught it all on video. The back cover described the movie like this: “That's right the party crew is back! This time we took everyone down to St. Martin for a dance party that never ended! Vanessa was ready for Michael before we even touched the sand. Tori and Johnny made use of the outdoor pool before Brooklyn ordered up some sex on the beach! Tori showed the locals a thing or two on a sex filled boat ride and Brooklyn and Michael got down at a beach bar. Jet skis, para-sailing and scuba diving couldn't stop this group from non-stop sex! Grab your flippers and join in the skinny dipping now!” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Summary: Shane’s World 42 by Shane’s World might not have been the best of the best from the company but there was more than a little bit of a connection between some of the performers and the situations they were in seemed more like they really had fun compared to most modern porn where the positions and acts are all outlined ahead of time. The spontaneous nature of the resulting trysts gave it some replay value above the individual attributes of the cast, the non-sexual good times leading into the sex in a much more sex positive manner for me than usual so I rated it as Recommended. I would have liked the show to be longer, it clocked in at under two hours after all, and offer a more complete set of extras as well as performers I care more about but this was a nice return to the better times for the company and those that appreciate something more than formulaic fucking in their porn. In short, Shane’s World 42: Paradise Island was a nice bit of work by Tori Black, Brooklyn Lee, and Vanessa Cage doing Johnny Castle and Michael Vegas under the Bahaman sun, the technical aspects elevated over previous expeditions in a manner that allowed the home viewer to appreciate the entire show better than ever.
