The Movie:

Directed by John Christopher and released theatrically in North American porn palaces in 1980, and while it may have been titled and marketed to look like a European import, the cast of American porno movie regulars of the era that pop up in this picture pretty much confirm that there's nothing European about it. It's shot in a cabin somewhere near some snow covered woods, but the location is more than likely somewhere in upstate New York rather than Sweden.

When the film starts, inside the aforementioned cabin, Ingrid (Heather Young, credited as Colleen Anderson), sporting a really bad Swedish accent, is fooling around with Joey Silvera, who she keeps calling Sven. She says 'ja' a lot as he eats her out and the disco music on the soundtrack gets louder once he mounts her missionary style and pumps her twat for a few minutes. He pulls out and blows his load on her stomach and after they're finished they decide they'd better hurry up and get ready for the arrival of her American cousin who will soon be arriving.

Cut to some stock footage of an airport and the pair meet up with the cousin, Anne, played by Erica Havens. Ingrid tells Anne that 've must go to Schtockholm and meet my fvriends' and Sven says 'ja' as they drive around for a few minutes before heading back to the cabin. Anne's feeling tense after her flight and hops into the tub where Ingrid decides to wash her back for her. Of course, one thing leads to another and soon these cousins prove to be of the 'kissin' variety. Ingrid heads to the bedroom for a glass of wine while Anne masturbates. If you're into seventies orgy footage, this is the film for you as there's a lot of it here, but aside from that the sex is fairly typical. That said, the film is well shot and makes good use of an interesting cast and the ridiculous Swedish accents provide no small amount of unintentional hilarity. I'm not at all sure what any of this has to do with a sorority, as it all takes place in cabins and, erm, Stockholm based orgy rooms (?) but hey, kudos to the marketing guys at 'Jackrabbit Productions' for getting our attention.

The DVD

Video:

This fullframe transfer, which appears to present the film in its original aspect ratio, looks surprisingly sharp and colorful, if a bit faded, even if it is interlaced. The picture quality, for an old XXX film from 1980, looks surprisingly good. There are some specks here and there as well as a moderate amount of grain but this looks to be a film sourced transfer and not a VHS or tape source. The black levels stay strong, the skin tones look natural, and while there are a few scenes that look a bit on the soft side in addition to come mild compression artifacts noticeable in the blacks, overall this is a nice picture. A 'Copyright 2009 VCX' but does appear a few times at the bottom of the screen throughout the movie. This is VCX's method of protecting their properties, so it's understandable that it appears, but it's bound to annoy some purists.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack is a little muffled and not of the best quality, but again, it's taken from an older source so the limitations of the era's technology are going to be there when that's the case. Dialogue is pretty easy to understand, however, and the background music comes through reasonably clear. There aren't a lot of sound effects used in the film, mostly just some random moaning and groaning during the action scenes and these are handled just fine, as are the talkier bits of the movie. Surprisingly enough, this DVD also features a Spanish language dub. The dubbing doesn't always match the lips of the actors but more often than not it comes close. While you probably won't want to watch it this way (unless you only speak Spanish), it's cool to see it included here.

Extras:

Aside from some tacky animated menus, VCX has included four bonus scenes, the first of which is from Sweet Throat (6:35) and after a fairly lengthy intro it shows off the oral skills of an attractive olive skinned brunette who gives the telephone repairman a blowjob. The second clip is from Vista Valley PTA (4:43) and it follows two students, Richard Pacheco and Dorothy Lemay, who are fooling around in the car. Final Thoughts:

Swedish Sorority Girls isn't the sexiest film ever made, not by a long shot, but it is definitely hysterical and VCX's DVD doesn't look or sound bad at all. If all you're looking for is masturbation fodder, you're probably not going to get into this one too much but if you enjoy all the oddities that classic porn can sometimes provide, then definitely check this out. Recommended.
