The Movie:

This 1993 VCA production was directed by Sharon Mitchell, the same Sharon Mitchell who was a staple on screen in the seventies and who starred in such classics as The Taming Of Rebecca, The Violation Of Claudia and Water Power. She also pops up in Lustig's Maniac, giving her a teeny tiny bit of mainstream credibility I suppose. At any rate, it's appearing here on DVD for the first time anywhere.

The film follows a few people who wish to, shall we say, experiment. Of course, given the title of the film, it stands to reason that these wishes will come true and before you know it, everyone's involved in a bizarre transsexual soap opera/mystery movie. The plot meanders but manages to make sense more often than not and the ending, without wanting to spoil things, has a nice twist to it.

Chapter 1 - Sharon Kane And Mark Andrews Sharon's in bed teasing him. He hops in and starts sucking on her tits. He fingers her and eats her out and then she goes down on him for a bit which morphs into a sixty-nine. He rolls her over and fucks her missionary style and then rolls her over once again to do her from behind. He pulls out and strokes off onto the top of her ass.

Chapter 2 - Kelly And Coco After a brief talk, transsexual Kelly gives transsexual Coco head while she plays with her nipples. Kelly then gets down on all fours in front of her so that she can fuck her up the ass for a bit. Coco pulls out and spurts into Kelly's mouth and onto her tits.

Not personally being all that interested in transsexuals, it's hard to gauge the 'heat' level of the film seeing as four of the five scenes in the film are based around that kink. If this is your bag, you'll probably get more out of the film than this reviewer did. That said, the movie is well shot and despite long stretches of dialogue that appear without any sexual activity whatsoever, it is paced reasonably well. The sex scenes are a little on the short side but they're well shot and the performers all seem to be enjoying themselves. On a technical level the picture is well done.

The DVD

Video:

This feature was shot on video and is presented on this DVD fullframe. For a movie that's roughly fifteen years old, Be Careful What You Wish For doesn't look terrible here though the lighting in the film is pretty poor and as such, it's a little on the dark side. The colors are a little faded and there's a lot of heavy aliasing in some scenes and there are minor problems with the contrast but the picture is clean and clear and stable for the most part. It's far from reference quality but for an older shot on video production, it's perfectly watchable even if it is very soft.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound mix is in English and is pretty standard stuff, no better, no worse. Dialogue comes through clear enough and there I didn't notice any problems as far as synching or levels are concerned. It's hardly an Earth shattering mix in any way, but it serves the film just fine and the cheesy Casio soundtrack sounds alright.

Extras:

Extras are limited to trailers for seven other VCA/Hustler DVD titles, a still gallery of ten hardcore images set to music from the movie, an internet link, phone sex ads, still menus and chapter selection for the feature.

Final Thoughts:

Be Careful What You Wish For has a decent storyline and some reasonably good performances. On that level, it's not bad. How much you get out of the film will depend on how much you get off on transsexual high jinks. The quality is okay for an older shot on video film but it's certainly not up to today's standards and the extras are a disappointment. If you're curious... rent it.
