Extras: The first disc offered only a trailer to the movie (and a couple of others) as an extra and the DVD case enclosed in a protective cover that opened up like a book, the old piracy commercial and a clip for Wicked’s sex toy line included too. The slip cover itself was double sided too with a tamer side and naughtier version. The second disc was where the pedal hit the metal as it contained a promotional reel, six trailers, a photogallery, and three unrelated “bonus scenes” from other productions including Asa Akira with Ryan Driller from Hotel No Tell 2 (13:56 minutes), Riley Steele with Jessica Drake from Snow White XXX (19:22 minutes), and Ash Hollywood with Michael Vegas from Right Amount of Wrong (14:01 minutes). The best extra made specifically for this production was the 9:32 minute long Behind the Scenes; not exactly awesome or in depth but some effect shots, Evan & Eric cutting up, Riley and Priya shaking their asses with a metal stripper pole, and James mugging his lines before an homage to Axel montage led to a short Asa interview, the gal playing with Riley on the bed, and Ron teasing Riley before a collection of other brief clips.

Audio/Video Quality: Barbarella XXX: An Axel Braun Parody was presented in anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Axel Braun for Wicked Pictures. The director of photography was Alex Ladd, the man joined by Marc Weston as the two videographers, Brother Goat serving as the sound technician, Dawn September handling costumes, Axel taking care of art direction as well as co-editing with Mrs. Braun, Claudia Ross, and Marc Weston (Axel, Mrs. and Claudia also credited with the music, Axel singing the catchy main theme). The special effects were done by Level 5 Post with appropriately cheesy touches to look like a low budget foreign sci-fi flick from the 60’s, the movie largely following the original movie instead of the comic book source material. The flesh tones were accurate, the video bitrate varying as needed to convey the information, and the show looked pretty solid on my big screen, somewhat sharper on my far smaller computer monitor of course, but coming across more as an Americanized version of the movie in terms of the set looks than the original. The audio was a decent mix of clear vocals, interesting music, and low budget ambient noises but what really shined for me was the theme song sung by Axel called “Barbarella Sluterella” that had a 1960’s Tom Jones/Burt Bacherach approach to it that remains in my head days after first hearing it, the song far surpassing Axel’s previous attempts at sonic merriment.

Body of Review: Axel Braun has become the most prolific parody director in porn in recent times, his best works said to be yet to come courtesy of his association with Wicked Pictures. Granted, his weaker efforts are so bad as to defy accurate description, the rumor mill clearly suggested how limited his true involvement is with those (which are shot for another company) but when he gets the right project, he truly shines in a way that very, very few of his directing peers can keep up with. His latest such project is called Barbarella XXX: An Axel Braun Parody, a parody of the Jane Fonda movie from the 1960’s which itself was a parody of sorts based on a French comic book. I first saw the movie at a drive in theater around 45 years ago and later read some of the original source material after it was published in Heavy Metal magazine before the graphic novels came out. The already frank sexual material was pornified further here and proved to be the first feature star vehicle I can honestly say was perfectly suited for Riley Steele, the beautiful young lady about as fetching as you will find in modern porn.

The five scenes included two lesbian trysts, Riley in one of them, a BJ-only scene, and a menage a trois to open the flick, cameos by Tera Patrick and Ron Jeremy a nice touch too. Asa Akira was the lead in the two lesbian scenes and made it clear that this was her first time working on a feature with Axel at Wicked, both of them under contract now to produce high end fuck flicks as such. Of note here is that the entire production had a lot of the super cheesy foreign 1960’s feel and sound as I remember it, the sex defintely feature pron couple’s sex but enjoyable all the same. The back cover described the movie like this: “Riley Steele shines in Axel Braun's campy sci-fi parody as Barbarella, a highly sexual astronaut assigned with finding and stopping the evil Durand-Durand. Co-starring Wicked Pictures contract star Asa Akira as The Great Tyrant, and even featuring a cameo by porn legend Tera Patrick, "Barbarella XXX: An Axel Braun Parody" is a fun, sexy, big-budget spoof that will take you on a psychedelic ride to discover the joys of intergalactic sex!” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Riley Steele, the gorgeous blue eyed blond featured on the center of the front cover, was up first with Evan Stone and Eric Masterson, the tag team comedians serving as her first dish of dick she encounters on her mission. They were dressed in Christmas colors, whipping out their turgid peckers for Riley to suck in alternating fashion. She throated them both as she slobbed their knobs, nuzzling nuts and applying hand to gland friction to them while also giving some good eye contact as she knelt in front of them. Luckily for all concerned, her outfit had a split for easy access to her ass and bald beaver, no slowing down needed as she continued to suck one off as the other porked her pussy in various penetrative positions. The rubbers magically appeared rather than have them introduced in comic fashion, the missed opportunities not a bother as Riley enthusiastically tackled both men orally and vaginally in a less than explicit manner given the attire worn by all three of them. Scene Two: Riley Steele, then rescued by Alec Knight in a wolf outfit, asked if he would fix her spaceship. Scene Three: Asa Akira, the lean Asian hard body with a horn on her head on the front cover, was up next in a lesbian tryst with Rachael Madori, the newcomer sporting a mohawk themed hair style with shaven sides of her head as the ladies kissed, gobbled gash, and rimmed ass with some fingering in Asa’s throne room. There was other eye candy lightly caressing each other too but they barely engaged each other in any significant fashion, even leaving the room when Asa stuffed Rachael’s panties in her mouth, the main event needing the ottoman as a sexual platform I suppose for spitting and play. It was fun to watch but the looped music got old really quickly and the moans seemed dubbed at times too, I just with Asa, a gonzo anal queen of tremendous skill, had been given a full scene instead of just lesbian antics, even if they did have some replay value and strokability.

Scene Four: Chanell Heart, a lean black gal with appealing curves, was up next in the dream chamber as she and her friends got high, the others leaving when Kurt Lockwood came out of the water tube to sexually play with her. His first conscious act was to air his modest cock in the direction of her mouth as she knelt before him, Chanell automatically sucking him off while providing great eye contact. The encounter was upbeat and showed both of them taking turns on each other orally, manually, and eating both ass and pussy with some fingering at times. Asa liked to spit as a lubricant rather than apply her saliva the old fashioned way by licking her friend, frisky Riley making the most of it by encouraging Asa in a chemistry filled fashion with great eye contact and some mutal adoration. The pationate tryst bounced between sensual and heated at times but it was definitely the kind of eye candy needed to close out the flick.

Summary: Barbarella XXX: An Axel Braun Parody by director Axel Braun for Wicked Pictures has been one of the most anticipated parodies of the season since it was announced, Axel working on a few killer projects outside the genre too as parodies continue to fall out of favor with the public. Regardless, I have no doubts at all that Barbarella XXX: An Axel Braun Parody is going to impress a lot of people around award time, not just as a way to reward sexy Riley Steele for looking so adorable but for capturing much of the essence of the original French flick as the crew “saved the galaxy one fuck at a time” (paraphrasing the advertising bit on the cover). While I would have enjoyed better extras that were more related to the movie, and perhaps a few less nods to Duran Duran songs, I believe the movie will appeal to a broader audience than most parodies for its own merits so I rated it as Highly Recommended, Riley Steele likely to float the boat of sci-fi geeks for years to come so check it out.
