Audio/Video Quality: Rachel Starr Is Bad Ass was presented in a decent 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as released by director Mason for Elegant Angel using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec with 480 resolution. The camera work was again solid with plentiful lighting to eliminate grain, video noise and shadows so the picture appeared to be in line with her other work to date. Mason has made or assisted on a number of titles over the years, the technical matters taking back seat (pun intended) to the raw energy of the sex, but her skill levels have definitely been improving with the camera too, showing she pays attention for those that care (in fact, most of her current works look almost identical to those of Nutsack). I saw no compression artifacts though there was about 4.6 Mbps video bitrate but the composition of the camera angles strongly favored the ladies and their well lit bodies. The compositions of the shots helped maximize the potential of the ladies too, rarely relying on extreme close ups all the time as some seem destined to do and the editing by Bossman Hall allowing her vision to remain as complete as possible. The 2.0 Dolby Digital English track was pretty basic with little separation or dynamic range yet I could hear the cast well enough in most cases. For those keeping track, the audio was offered in a 256 Kbps offering with a 48 kHz sampling rate, the grunts and groans heard well enough but the music by Mybeatshop elevating the proceedings nicely.

Body of Review: Mason is one of the few remaining female directors able to "get it right" these days when it comes to making strokable, hardcore porn, her many titles at Elegant Angel serving as notice to the wannabe types that direct in name only. Her latest title is a showcase effort called Rachel Starr Is Bad Ass, a 3+ hour set of five lengthy scenes where Rachel Starr finally gets the kind of spotlight she has earned with her many heated performances to date. One look at the curvy brunette on the front cover will tell you if you're interested, the young lady finally doing anal but also offering up a variety of action and tease that fits the company mold so very well. In short then, Rachel Starr Is Bad Ass proved that the company reliance on elegance through simplicity once again scored major points with me, Elegant Angel showing that their star maker machine knows just how to select the ripest of the babes working in the business at any given time. As one dedicated fan put it to me recently, "A porn chick isn't worth talking about until she's been in a couple of these spotlight titles by Elegant." Given their relative track record to date, I'm inclined to agree with him on general principles alone, not just the proven statistical likelihood observed over time so give it a look.
