Extras: The extras included a 51:51 minute long Behind the Scenes feature, a pop shot recap, a photogallery, some trailers, Vivid’s longstanding “special offer”, and the usual spam/extras. I really liked the BTS, not so much for the length but the depth and inclusion of lots of different aspects of the flick such as how this was shot concurrently with last year’s big hit Wetwork, the name changing and the bizarre circumstances of the San Francisco production(s). There was a lot of improvised goofing around worth watching, the idea that it could have become a documentary about shooting a movie that was never finished plausible. It was hilarious (pranks and all) and an idea that should be picked up.

Audio/Video Quality: Family Secrets was presented in anamorphic widescreen as credited to director Kimberly Kane for Vivid Entertainment. As soon as I saw the director of photography was Eli Cross and the art directors were Kylie Ireland & Andy Appletn, I knew the technical aspects would be fine, the clarity of the shots and accuracy of flesh tones every bit as good as Wetwork that was shot by the same folks at the same time to save money. The editing by Fletcher Martin was tight in most cases, few noticable transitions observed and a lot of care going into the final cut.There was a company watermark on the lower left corner of the screen at all times and a few spots were some intentional grain was included but the extensive use of establishing shots and varied backgrounds made this look like a “real” movie too. The aural portion of the movie was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo using the AC3 codec, the vocals crisp and clear, the haunting musical score well above average, and the ambient sounds appropriately mixed in, Seth Cardigan credited with the audio for the show.

Body of Review: Kimberly Kane is one of the most talented young ladies to enter porn over the years, that she is one of the nicer and smarter people (of either gender) to perform and direct is just the icing on the cake for guys like me. Her latest work is for Vivid Entertainment in the form of Family Secrets, a feature mystery centering on the question; “Who Killed Vicky Valentine?” Kim plays a role as do Penny Pax, Claire Robbins, Steven St. Croix and other recognized talents in what I found to be a smaller budget but creative bit of entertainment, the technical side of the movie well covered by some of the same names you always hear around award time. The back cover described the movie like this:”When the body of a young girl is discovered on a popular San Francisco beach, a chilling web of lies, sexual depravity and dark Family Secrets unfold and everyone is a suspect. The clock is ticking to solve the mystery and the qyestion on everyone's mind is... Who Killed Vicky Valentine?” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Kimberly Kane, the lean brunette hotty featured on the lower middle portion of the front cover, was up first in bed with Steven St. Croix, the man plowing her in various forms of missionary as she intensely provided solid eye contact with him. Given that it was a crime thriller type flick, the replay value of the movie was not as strong as it could have been but Family Secrets easily earned a rating of Recommended and I can see why some are whispering it could become a dark horse favorite for a variety of awards this season, much like Wetworks was last year so check it out.
