Audio/Video Quality: Penny Flame's Expert Guide To Rough Sex was presented in a crisp 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Penny Flame for Vivid Ed in the 480p resolution, MPEG-2 codec expected of the production. Tristan Taormino was also credited and the duo of cameramen/assistants (Fliktor and Ralph Parfait) have substantial porn resumes so I knew the production would be technically well ahead of the ultra plus works Penny has provided the world in the past (though they were super fun to watch and still have lots of replay value years later). The movie was split into a few parts, with an educational portion in the form of a lecture as well as a true "hands on" set of segments starring the listed cast getting off before the actual scenes, the living room setting evenly lit to reduce grain and video noise. It wasn't as great looking as some of the Blu-ray titles I've watched of late but there were no significant problems with the show's visual aspects, the bitrate hovering around the 4.7 Mbps area when I spot checked it. The audio was presented in the 2.0 Dolby Digital English with a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps audio bitrate. The vocals were clearly heard and balanced in with the narration and musical interludes (that never got in the way) but slightly hollow and showing no separation between the channels. In essence, the audio was about average with the video aspects better handled (not quite cable broadcast quality but close).

Body of Review: Penny Flame is reportedly about to announce she is out of porn for the time being, so her many award winning efforts of the past year might become even more valuable to her fans. Scene One: Penny Flame, the hotty featured on the front cover of the DVD case, was up first in instructional mode with a curvy cutie named Mia Lelani. Penny stayed clothed so it really wasn't a "scene" in the standard sense of the word but she did show a variety of techniques used in rough sex, stopping short of where Kylie Ireland or Belladonna might go but still covering the basics very nicely with the animated icons (Penny as an angel and devil) and live action.

Scene Two: Penny Flame, this time without any clothing on, was roughed up by muscular Derrick Pierce, the introduction concentrating on making the play safe. I would have preferred more tease and exploration of how to act with clothes on but the pair really appeared to have a tremendous amount of chemistry together, Penny practically dripping before anything touched her clitoris or ass. She was a submissive this time and that seemed to suit her better than the dominant position she had assumed prior, Derrick having a field day tossing her onto the couch, choking her, and otherwise slapping her around. This was a consensual sex scene, like virtually all of modern porn is, so it was not as edgy as it could have been but when broken down into the constituent parts, it sure seemed to invoke sparks from the first choking to the last drop of genetic juice landing on her face before he threw her again on the couch and walked away as she used the large vibrator to masturbate with. Scene Three: Aiden Starr, one of the delights of the 2009 AEE, was up next as she dominated a guy named Devin. Le4xi showed she could take anything he could dish out and I thought the bonus version of the scene where the instructions were tossed in favor of the sex alone really worked significantly better, so much of the instruction seemingly going over territory mentioned before in the previous scenes. He bust a nut of spew on her face at the end and did some taste testing of his own but as much as I think he's way, way over the hill these days, he worked out just fine with the heated little babe in a way that I haven't seen in a long time from him.

Summary: Penny Flame's Expert Guide To Rough Sex by director Penny Flame for Vivid Ed was much more of a newbie's guide to the subject than a seasoned porn reviewer such as myself could use but it did lay the groundwork for further discussion and merited a rating of Highly Recommended in the genre itself. Penny was once again a treat and the sexual activity was a lot more heated than some of the admittedly dry action from previous works in the series. I would have liked more content, like Belle Delphine nude in the field and better extras but considering how little is out there for those wanting to check out rough sex play, my thumb on the scale is relatively slight (the movie works on both levels; as educational fodder and as a stroke flick). In short, Penny Flame's Expert Guide To Rough Sex will satisfy the newcomers to rough sex and fans of the cast, Penny, Aiden, and Lexi all giving solid performances.
