Extras: The only real extra was the lost footage from the Porn Week Academy scene between Diana Gold and Jazz Duro, mostly tease and some masturbation material lasting 5:16 minutes. There was also a cumshot recap and some website suggestions but that was all.

Audio/Video Quality: Porn Week: Anal Vacation Vol. 1 was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Dave West for release by Hush Hush Entertainment in the MPEG-2 codec. Like the rest of the series, the goal was more about capturing the spirit of the impromptu trysts than technical excellence, the camera getting as much of the footage as possible for the editors to make of it what they can for the individual releases. As such, expecting it to look as polished and perfect as most high end porn is a mistake, much like the party videos shot by Shane’s World proper (who were the distributor here. There was grain, all sorts of composition errors, and colors not exactly accurate, the fun factor the best thing involved here for fans tired with the porn their grandfather used to watch. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps bitrate, a lot of background noise to be had getting in the way of the action but that was part of the vacation idea too.

Body of Review: Shane’s World had long been one of my favorite production companies for the breath of fresh air they offered in their many series involving college hijinks and such, their venture into more generic gonzo amusing but less unique. Since those days, which might now be on the verge of starting up again, the company has relied on a variety of outside productions such as those offered up by director Dave West and his Porn Week series. I haven’t seen many of the series in recent months but they always provide some charming moments, some of the scene clearly shot by the vacationing amateurs but usually coming across as unscripted in a way few companies care to showcase. The latest such offering is more of a compilation of scenes provided previously in a title called Porn Week: Anal Vacation Vol. 1, long gone Nikki Jayne featured as the big name doing her first DP from a movie called “The Initiation of Nikki Jayne”. Most of the scenes here were labeled with the cast and what was done (almost all invariably including anal sex). In terms of what took place, you can pretty much accept that anal was included, a lot of condoms, and much of the footage coming from “Nikki Jayne: Making of a Porn Star”. Rather than bore you with a literal blow by blow account of what took place, suffice it to say that this was largely a Euro-porn styled affair with the eight scenes providing some variety, the vacationers sticking to the background more than usual thanks to the editing. Summary: Porn Week: Anal Vacation Vol. 1 by director Dave West for distribution by Shane’s World reminded me a bit of why I prefer the original productions, the spontaneous nature of them replaced in part by editing for the scenes to mimic traditional porn. I don’t know if the sensational Porn Week vacations are still being offered (if I could have gone, I would have when offered several years back) but frankly they were well documented in the series as “the place to be” for the true porn fan, the increasingly easy access to porn performers by anyone with a few bucks to spend perhaps weakening the appeal but never replacing it. As a set of eight scenes shot over the years, Porn Week: Anal Vacation Vol. 1 did a decent enough job for raincoaters but not enough to overcome the stigma of being an unlabeled compilation so while I enjoyed it enough to rate it as a Rent It, I was left wanting more of the experience from the cast & crew so aptly put into most of the previous volumes. By all means search a few of them out, some are currently out of print sadly enough, but even the few that didn’t live up to the promise of the concept had some energy and originality so check them out.
