OVERVIEW

LightSouthern Cinema finishes its Momentum quartet of films with a story that is the most ambitious product in the series' concept and execution. Set in the Australian desert, it's a sexy, strange, and dramatic feature that highlights male and female protagonists searching for adventure in a dust-swept and picturesque outback town.

Scene 1: Laney Day

The film opens, establishing our four wandering actors emerging on the town-as-setting. There are male and female seaside wanderers, a youthful businessman seemingly stranded while on a junket, and a supple, bored, and brunette ingenue.

Laney Day is one of the wanderers in question and is picked up by a hairy, bearded gentleman with a VERY thick Australian accent. He offers her a ride. In typical porn, we may use a cut or fade scene to establish time movement to a point wherein the sex begins. However, Flynn's most exceptional skill as a director is in letting things breathe and letting the eroticism naturally develop.

It doesn't take long for the ideal sexual moment to avail itself. Day, exhausted, asks if she can sleep in the gentleman's backseat. He obliges. Some time passes, and the man decides to pull over to urinate on some rocks next to the ocean. Upon returning, he's compelled by looking through the backside window and seeing Day's innocent, sleeping form. Two minutes later, he's erect and masturbating furiously. There's nothing particularly artful about his method or its presentation. Instead, it's the sheer wantonness of the act that makes the scene a standout. How many times have we seen a comely teenage-ish girl benignly relaxing, as if without a care in the world? The dark portions of our brain that are turned on by porn scenes that end up in some manner of coercion or implied rape rum amok here. But in watching this dark-bearded gentleman stand outside of his automobile to pleasure himself brusquely, a moment is created that adds an unexpected layer of non-porn-typical humanity to the scene. Ultimately, that's what makes it a winner.

Does he cum on his window, too? Of course. Let it not be said that this film is also darkly hilarious. To wit, as he's stretching in his mid-day afterglow, our heroine Day awakens, sees the ignition's keys, and slides over to the front driver's seat. Flashing a knowing, toothy grin, she starts the motor and speeds away, our masturbating pick-up artist left in the dust.

Scene 2: Ryan James

Next, Ryan James, as our junketing businessman, appears at a desolate bar. He's poured a beer from the tap, and as he sips and plays pool, things get woozy as an ambient trip-hop soundtrack plays in the background. He enters the Hotel Victoria, where what looks to be a group of hosteling twenty-somethings are kicking back and taking it easy with a few beers and a game of cards. The scene progresses, and one of the drunken males in the quartet, upon losing heads outside. As he sits and gathers his wits, he decides to take a wank. The film's humor soon again rears its head. Upon reaching a satisfying orgasm, he has a cum-filled left hand yet nothing upon which to wipe it. He grabs a beer from a six-pack he took to go, in his right hand, and, dealing with the apparent situation, smiles and shrugs. If a penis-having male-presenter and reading this, you've been there.

Continuing, Ryan James is staying in a two-twin bed bedroom in a musty hotel with threadbare carpet. As he awakens in the morning after his bender the night before, he emerges from his room and finds Kenzie and Lucinda, bored sipping tea under the morning sun. Kenzie's sharp eyes, pale skin, and sharply cut bangs steal the set-up to the sex that is preparing to ensue. Her darting eyes are highlighted by the cut of her hair and how the rising sun strikes against her face. There's something exaggerated about it all that is the most "traditional" foreplay harbinger used by Flynn in the making of this series. 

Scene 3: Ryan James, Kenji, Lucinda

They settle into a barn, and Kenji watches as Lucinda seduces Ryan James with a deep, not entirely erotic kiss. The kiss is much more set-up to start long, intriguing arousal that involves James removing his belt and spanking Lucinda. The spanking is noteworthy not because it's a direct invocation of BDSM, but it's more because of how significantly it arouses Lucinda. The fourth wall of "acting" has been impressively maintained throughout this series. However, here, it slides away, as there's something about being spanked that inspires a truly lusty blowjob from Lucinda to James in return. The intensity of the doggie-style bang that occurs bears truth to this, too. The sound of flesh-on-flesh is juxtaposed against Kenzie's face as the third-party watching is somewhat surprising. It's yet another in many excellent cinematic choices made in the series. 

How this scene then shifts to Kenji holding Lucinda's legs over and down behind her head while Ryan engages in intense missionary love-making is another tale of the heightened level of passion, here. It's also a moment where the idea that this series is less driven by mimicking 70s porn but more wanting to engage with the spirit of the era emerges. At this point, this very modern-feeling sex -- there's no folk music soundtrack, and the humor so far is not apparent -- sits between the two notions at play. Thus, the entire focus is on the idea that pornography itself has been elevated. 

Scene 4: Kenji, Chloe B, Laney Day, Taylor

The most stereotypically Australian notions yet -- two kangaroos frolicking in the outback desert -- introduce the final scene. Kenji, Chloe B, Laney Day, and Taylor frolic in a mountainside creek, engaging in two separate and artfully-shot makeout sessions that get intensely sexual. Is a woman laying artfully on a tree stump while being finger-fucked exciting to you? Of course. That's the not-so-thrilling, yet still entirely thrilling, conclusion.

As our scene fades, we see, at the top of the mountain, staring down into the creek, yes, the man whose car was stolen in scene one. It's a great chuckle.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This film is not so much porn as it is an artfully shot feature that starts as a comedy, It settles into intensely pornographic action and then leaves us with the result of an erotic drama to close. It's a taut hour in length, yet still lazes about in a manner that isn't boring, but more so in line with the setting and dramatic action of the film. If looking for something unique, yet grandiose to watch with someone who likes sex but loves film, this is ideal.
