Extras: The second disc had some trailers and 13 longer versions of scenes from the movie that lasted a total of 151:16 minutes, none of it hampered by more than a passing amount of plotted points. The third disc was dedicated to the true extras, starting out with a trailer and moving on with a Behind the Scenes “Making of” feature by Jorge Kunz and Sativa Verte lasting 31:05 minutes. That was followed by a wealth of interviews (Ashley Jane, Heidi Hanson, Leilani Leeanne, Marie McCray, Cassandra Nix, Riley Reid, Sativa Verte, Celeste Star, Skin Diamond, Vanessa Cage, Victoria Rae Black, Dani Daniels, Harry Sparks (the director), and Kim Nielssen (the producer, who explained where the company was going and where he got the ideas from). The interviews lasted about 132:57 minutes and contained a lot of information, some better than others.

Audio/Video Quality: Revenge of the Petites was presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Harry Sparks for AMK Empire. The production used the Red Camera system and tried a vastly different approach than most porn, the feature itself providing typically short sex scenes that allowed the plotted and feature elements to dominate, spiced up by the sex scenes (the second disc providing longer versions of the sex scenes for those so interested). The lighting and manner in which the action was shot reminded me of the golden age of porn more than anything currently being shot, the emphasis on a wide variety of lighting certainly a far cry from the flat, strong lighting that most good gonzo is shot under. The assistant camera operators were Babe Waters and Matt Bobbitt, the second unit directors credited as Manon Parisot and Jinish Shah, (and Dawid Rymar), an indie film approach taken with the project but more sex added in than you will find in most of them. The audio was presented in a 5.1 Dolby Digital under a 448 Kbps bitrate, the music a major upgrade from similar projects on the market of late. The sound was credited to Jon-Michael Newsom and Shane Alexander, the efforts of Frankie D. and Johnny C. on the multitude of original songs certainly a far cry better than most in the industry have been providing, additional music by Kingspade and Johnny Richter coming from other album’s. The vocals were not as crisp as I would have liked in every case but the ambient sounds blended into the vocals and music score made this seem more like a “real” movie than porn generally makes these days (harkening back to the mid 1970’s productions so many like).

Body of Review: Harry Sparks is a new director working for the AMK Empire, my previous experiences with the company centering on their “Petite” website of attractive young models. In an effort to show the world there are alternatives to gonzo and parodies, the director shot Revenge of the Petites, a feature that used a lot of inspiration from older movies in mainstream (teen movies from the 70’s and 80’s as well as the way porn used to focus more on plot with lots of short sex clips rather than formulaic sex scenes attached to a razor thin plot). For me, this worked out really well as a great alternative to the plethora of parodies or cheapo knockoffs populating the shelves of retailers, the story of a sorority of ladies that are not part of the popular group on campus certainly close in theme to the “Revenge of the Nerds” series so popular long ago.

The back cover described the movie like this: “In Revenge of the Petites, Marie and her best friend Skin embark on their freshman year of college. They soon realize college life is not as easy as it seems. Subjected to the taunts, teasing and practical jokes of the tall and beautiful girls of Theta House, led by the vicious Vanessa, Marie and her friends are left with no choice but to join a sorority for other petite girls. When one cruel, practical joke by the girls of Theta House goes too far, the petites have had enough. With the help of a former member of Theta House, the petites set out to get their revenge in the hilarious and heartfelt coming of age story. Written and directed by Harry Sparks, Revenge of the Petites is inspired by the many teen sex comedies of the 80s, but with an adult twist. The film features an extremely large cast, including Marie McCray, Skin Diamond, Vanessa Cage, Celeste Star, Dani Daniels, Cassandra Nix, Ashley Jane, Zoey Kush, Riley Reed, Kris Slater, Sativa Verte, Heidi Hanson, Katie St. Ives, Seth Dickens, Victoria Rae Black, Tia Cyrus, Nina Devon, Hayden Hawkens, Leilani Leeane,Talon, Sarah Shevon and James Deen.”

While the sexual and thematic lead of the movie was clearly Marie McCray, there were a number of others that earned some nods too, you can check out their interviews on YouTube (links attached) or buy the three disc collector edition set to find out more. Of interest to me was the way the second disc was devoted almost entirely to providing the same sex scenes as the movie but in fleshed out form, few of them following the conventions of modern porn in terms of what specific acts had to be covered or how cookie cutter similar they could have been under the way companies tend to force directors to adhere to narrow standards. Hopefully, this will inspire additional efforts by the director and others to break free of those old ways of doing things and apply some more creativity, the comeuppance portions of the feature giving the kind of non-sexual payoff that no amount of splooge, spunk, genetic juice, or population pudding could provide. Summary: Revenge of the Petites by director Harry Sparks for AMK Empire was a proverbial breath of fresh air in terms of providing an entertaining feature that didn’t so tightly adhere to someone else’s work. The sexual trysts were on the light side for a full fledged porno but the producer and director wisely decided to offer up fuller versions of the sex scenes in a complete second disc lasting two and a half hours that skipped the dialogue for the raincoater crowd. In that sense, like relatively few movies of recent times (the biggest being the “Pirate” series), the three disc package of material offers the best of both worlds, the technical aspects using high end equipment but not being tied to the flat lighting and formulas of modern porn in what could be considered a tribute to the golden age of porn more than anything else. As such, I felt Revenge of the Petites easily earned some accolades as a movie that will undoubtedly earn a number of awards in the future, my own rating of Highly Recommended or better serving as a guide to those into features. Give this one a look if you want something off the beaten path, essentially a pornified version of an indie movie with many of the trimmings, including locations and cast size to credibly pull off many of the group shots way ahead of the majority of what has been released in recent years.
