Audio/Video Quality: Cruel Media’s Starstruck 2 was presented in anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 widescreen as shot in by director Raul Cristian for Evil Angel in the MPEG-2 codec used for standard definition releases (including 480 resolution). There was a lot of strong lighting that helped maximize the quality of the picture, the camera still showing a lot of extra movement thanks to Raul’s usual jumpy method of catching the action. The editing was on the minimalist side but frankly, that seemed to help the flow of the sexual trysts in certain cases. The bitrate was decent so there were few obvious compression artifacts, the aliasing minimal and given the sheer amount of quality footage on display, most fans will be quite happy; Raul allowing the ladies to provide some heated raw energy even if his attempts to capture it were mixed. The bitrate hovered all over the place this time, higher than usual with most of the movie in the 4.3 Mbps range, but varying across the board depending on the scene. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (at 192 Kbps with a 48 kHz sampling rate) offering that really didn't use any separation in terms of the vocals (there was some potential to do so here too). The dynamic range was also kind of generic, an area that seemed slightly better than previous efforts and an area that Raul could easily improve to make best use of the great many home theaters in the hands of porn fans everywhere.

Body of Review: Raul Cristian is a European director at Evil Angel, his works definitely more about performers being pushed to their limits over romantic sexual encounters involving chemistry. Cruel Media’s Starstruck 2, a single disc title sent to me for review, was the latest from the director coming in for review, the loss of the second disc of extras balanced out a bit by the inclusion of three “stars” of epic magnitude in the form of Lisa Ann, Asa Akira, and Katsuni. Say what you will about Raul’s often generic casting of foreign women with blank looks on their faces, these domestically shot scenes had some serious potential to elevate his standing in the porn pantheon. Fans of Lisa Ann will be especially happy since she had two lengthy scenes, the heated sexual trysts a far cry from her popular (but sexually limited) parody work of late, the inclusion of guys like Manuel Ferrara surely helping with the chemistry.
