Extras: The only real extra worth discussing was the 17:29 minute long Behind the Scenes feature and it was largely devoted to interviewing the ladies. It wasn't bad but it was a far cry from some of the extras Jim has provided in the past, the 2:12 minute Blooper Reel adding a little something too. There was also an obligatory photogallery, a set of trailers, and a slip cover for the DVD case but again, nothing out of the ordinary.

Audio/Video Quality: Friends and Family was presented in the current industry standard anamorphic widescreen 1.78:1 as shot by director Jim Powers for Smash Pictures. This standard definition release was encoded in the MPEG-2 codec, the video bitrate hovering around the 5.7 Mbps mark when I spot checked it several times, the visuals mediocre in most ways. The focus was rarely sharp and there were compression artifacts, the colors not quite right in many cases. There was grain and other issues related to the lack of proper lighting too, the editing not compensating for the compositional errors of the quickly shot feature. The audio was hardly special either with the 2.0 Dolby Digital English production using the standard 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps aural bitrate, the generic music mixed in fairly well with the vocals but again, showing very little separation between the channels (if any) and not contributing to the flick at all.

Body of Review: Jim Powers is best known for some of his outrageous gonzo porn but he occasionally shots features for companies like Smash Pictures when the price is right. Such was the case with the upcoming Friends and Family, a feature fuck flick centering on two families with high sex drives making their way into each other's lives. The plotted elements were minimal and could thankfully be skipped with the disc's wall to wall feature, but the casting showed the company is still picking winners even if their performances were not always on the mark. The back of the box described the movie like this: "When the Davis and Stone families get together the sexual sparks fly. Watch as Evan Stone pounds his friend's barely legal daughter. Mom, Lisa Ann and her daughter's best girlfriend Georgia make creamy lesbian love. Mark Davis and his wife have a three way with the neighbor's daughter. Even the chronic masturbating son James gets it on with his adopted Asian sister Miko. Walking the line between deviance and fantasy, Friends and Family is where sex, love, greed and lust collide in a cum filled utopia." Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Mallory Rae, the lean blond sported on the front cover (second from the left), was up first on a brown couch with the mighty Evan Stone, the man orally servicing her as she spread her legs very wide. She appeared happy with his efforts though more from a mechanical point of view than via personal chemistry. He then alternated fucking her pussy and mouth; the gal largely passive in the acts (and the audio definitely second rate). The vaginal creampie was dubious though since it came immediately after an edit point, Evan having boned her silly beforehand, the genetic juice flowing freely out of her snatch.

Scene Two: Miko Sinz, the skinny brunette on the front cover (fourth from the left side), was up next with horned up James Deen, the guy having peeped in the last scene. She dropped to her knees while leaving her torn jean skirt on, looking up at him as she worked his knob, the eye contact far better than the generic music. It was a hand assisted hummer and he reciprocated by eating her front and back, the gal actively riding his pecker as he penetrated her juicy slit on the green bedspread. A few positions of "oh yeah" sex later led to him rubbing out a nut of population pudding to her face, the gal smiling as it all came to an end.

Scene Three: Lisa Ann, the busty babe of the show playing the mother of the Stone family (first gal from the right side on the cover), was up next in bed with sexy little brunette Georgia Jones, the youthful gal on the cover (on the lower right corner). Lisa pulled back her bright blue shorts to reveal the pussy, Georgia fascinated by Lisa's ample breasts and sucking on them. They caressed one another and the clothing slowly fell to the floor, the clumsy camera work unable to properly catch the heat of the scene very well. They soon ate each other out and used toys, the wild looking vibrator Lisa used on Georgia something that interested my toy tester Nadine. In all, it was a limited scene but still showed some potential unmet as edited, the strokability undeniable.

Scene Four: Tiffany Star, the scrawny brunette seen on the second spot from the right side, was up next in an interracial scene with Prince Yahshua on a tan couch. He ate her out extensively, the gal overacting too much for my tastes. She slobbed his knob a little bit but he took over to hoist her up for more cunnilingus, the passive vaginal sex positions following. As she became accommodated to the pecker he wielded, she made limited attempts to better ride him though, this time ending the scene in what appeared to be a more likely case of cream pie since there was no edit, just the camera closing in on them.

Scene Five: Ashlyn Rae, the cute brunette seen on the cover (third from the left side), Carolyn Reese, the hotty seen on the far left side of the cover, and aging lothario Mark Davis, were up last in bed. Ashlyn expressed her desire to be with him and he declined as she licked his face, the man fantasizing about her before she blew him in bed while his wife slept. Her blowjob was pretty good and it woke Carolyn, the lady visibly upset until the youthful indiscretion was applied to her as well. The ladies kissed and caressed, going down on each other until it was time for him to alternate between them; getting head and giving his dick to them both. There was more energy here than in any other scene, some taste testing leading to Carolyn getting a load of semen on her chest.

Summary: Friends and Family by director Jim Powers for Smash Pictures was a modest effort to say the least, the sexual trysts watered down compared to the type of porn the director usually shoots so I rated it as a Rent It. Lisa Ann stood out as the most appealing lady of the bunch even though she was confined to a lesbian scene, the best acting coming from the men in the threadbare script. In short, Friends and Family was much like the other titles released by the company in recent years for how the scenes played out, the minimalist manner in which the story elements were handled not really giving it a lot of replay value any more than the oral and vaginal antics added to the strokability but you may find it is worth further investigation if you are a huge fan of the cast, despite the technical values being on the low side and the extras coming in as kind of weak.
