Audio/Video Quality: Pervert was presented in the same 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color it was shot in by director Paul Thomas for Hustler Video using the standard definition MPEG-2 codec in 480p resolution for the SD version. While not his most visually stunning work of late, it reminded me of some of Paul’s earlier works at Vivid, this being his second credited title since parting ways with Vivid. The composition of the camera angles was good this time, the director balancing his usual dedication to plot over sex with a new crew that were not credited in the movie. The editing seemed smoother this time, still different from more generic porn but lending itself to the material at hand. The fleshtones were generally accurate though and the DVD mastering was well done (the bitrate hovering around 6.1 Mbps in SD), making the majority of footage well handled (the sex scenes appeared to be on the saturated side again). There was no company watermark here, a fact that should appeal to Paul’s fans out there. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 192 Kbps with a 48 kHz sampling rate) offering with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent, some of the score meriting a nod from me.

Body of Review: Paul Thomas is one of the most award winning directors still alive in porn, his newest home being Hustler Video after his departure from Vivid. Unlike his previous works, he is now more directly subject to consumer demands as the company is simply distributing his movies, time will tell if tending to his artistic muse will result in the accolades he sought while under contract. His next movie for Hustler is called Pervert, a darker tribute to the whole concept of voyeurism and kink that embraces something more interesting than the generic vanilla porn the director so often had to handle when under his long term contract. With ladies such as Lily LaBeau, Bobbi Starr, and Crissy Hines, it appeared on the face of it that this would be a winner. The back cover described the movie like this: “Otto likes to watch. Lilly likes to be watched. Eric likes danger. Danger makes Marion wet. Sara likes pain. Derek has a gun. Party time!!!” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Grudge Fuck: Lily LaBeau, the fetching young blond featured on the front cover, was up first in the bathroom with Derrick Pierce, Otto watching as they went at it. Scene Three: Rob In The Hood: Bobbi Starr, a popular brunette extreme queen, and curvy blond Crissy Hines, were up next as a couple of hookers picked up by Eric Swiss, this tryst very truncated (but leading to a lengthier bout of boning in the next portion). The pantyhose fetish aspects and face sitting were the mainstay of this part of the scene, Bobbi’s red fishnet outfit sweetening up the sexual heat as it helped build some sexual tension.

Scene 3.1: Rob In The Hood: Crissy Hines, Bobbi Starr, Anthony Rosano, and Eric Swiss, were up next in a group sex bash that began when Eric explained himself more to the crowd. His craving for danger led to them all having a relatively normal scene with plenty of blowjobs and some minor amounts of vaginal penetrative sex, the ladies getting some spunk rubbed out to their faces as a result.

There was definitely a sensuous build up of heat here, her black thong riding up her sweet ass and her sheer bra covering her just enough to make the disrobing more interesting. Summary: Pervert by director Paul Thomas for Hustler Video was definitely darker than the much of what you will find on the current market, the themes displayed helping amount to a sort of “mind fuck” over the typically vanilla porn of his former employer so I rated it as Recommended. The sex was strokable and the selection of ladies provided a fine variety to enhance replay value. In short then, Pervert was a satisfying balance of sexual perversions laced with the darker conceptual matters Paul has so long tried to adequately provide, his attention to detail in most of the movie showing he is again working to please fans looking for something different. On that note, the extras sucked but the entertainment value of the show as a whole (there being two vignettes to watch, the sex scenes blending a bit at times) was very solid. Some might consider that the fast forward fodder quotient was on the high end here but give it a chance and it may well grow on you; a trademark of many of Paul’s better efforts over the years.
