Extras: The only extra I cared for was the 4:29 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Varla Vex that showed what was going on behind the scenes of making the movie. There was also a 5 minute long look at how the series began in the first place, a short documentary seen previously in some volumes of the series, starring Clive McLean. There were also trailers for Hustler titles, a slide show, and some spam with the cover sporting a second side that displayed related titles in the series.

Audio/Video Quality: Barely Legal 92 was presented in a fetching 1.78:1 widescreen color by director Erica McLean for Hustler Video using the AVC codec; a standard on Blu-Ray discs; the standard definition version in MPEG-2 with the usual 480i resolution compared to the 1080i resolution of the high definition version, partially made up for by the SD's anamorphic nature). My knowledge of the SD version of the title allows me to compare the two; it lacked the better resolution and purity of fleshtones this version had, the bitrate often hovering around 17.4 Mbps area compared to less than a third that in the SD version which seemed to hover around the 4.5 Mbps mark. The use of video bothers some folks but it suited the nature of the show far more than film would have and the contrasts were all enhanced by the high definition approach. There were no obvious compression artifacts, no grain to speak of, and even in the final scene at night, I saw no macro-blocking or other issues that pop up; thanks in no small part to the proper lighting applied here. The summation of the visuals is that they made the show look better than ever, my sole complaint being that the composition of the camera angles and editing, while good, did not seem to be the best way to enhance the looks of some of the ladies. The gals were all generically lean and youthful as the series promotes but minor flaws and blemishes did not seem to be handled as well as some of the older volumes in the series, relatively minor quibbles considering how much more resolution the new format offered up for my inspection. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English using a 224 Kbps bitrate at 48 kHz in the Blu-ray version but the bitrate was a mere 192 Kbps in the SD version (very little difference). The vocals on the scenes were flat and even in most cases, the voice-overs sounding somewhat warmer in tone and always easier to hear, and the minimal music seemed to come from the stock library used for years by the series. In terms of upgrades then, the visuals got the largest boost by a wide margin with the aural capabilities once again cleaned up but only slightly (and in the BTS, I could barely hear the gals speak on occasion).

Body of Review: Erica McLean is best known to many people as a director for Hustler Video, having stepped into the mighty big shoes of her husband to helm the ever popular "Barely Legal" series after a myriad of others simply did not work out. Using the approach Clive applied to the show, she sticks to limited setups and youthful ladies, rarely deviating from the formula that worked so well in the past when she was his assistant. Her latest volume in the series is Barely Legal 92 (Blu-ray) and SD, the cast including a range of youthful gals but all of the young ladies looking...well, young if not completely lean. One of the most consistent things about the series is that most of the ladies appearing in the vast library of volumes coming out over the years is that they are generally all natural (no implants), easily portray a youthful image (even the ones in their twenties), and see fairly inexperienced. While there were only five scenes in the movie, all of them had some appeal too so if you like newcomer women, you will almost certainly enjoy this one. I have a mixed response to such titles and want to keep my biases out in the open though, either version of this title suited for those of you that are into young hotties with limited performance skills. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Gia's Garden: Gia Johnson, the lean black gal seen on the middle of the left hand side of the cover, was up first, sunning herself on a lawn chair as she read a magazine. When she was interrupted by moper Jarred Steed, she continued to diddle herself, the guy asking if he could watch yet jumping right in to eat her out. The 18 year old gal was largely passive about her dialogue and sexual performance here, her vocals overridden by the music most of the time. I hate passive pussy with a passion and she was definitely a low point in the show for me, even the ending when he busted a nut of genetic juice on her face, the gal clamped down so tight I thought she would have an aneurism.

Scene Two: Measuring Up: Lavish Styles, the tattooed black gal seen on the lower left hand corner of the front cover, was up next as an interior designer, Otto Bauer getting excited as he noticed her panties riding up the crack of her ass. Unlike most of the other ladies here, she seemed like she had a tremendous amount of experience slobbing knobs, working his cock greedily inside of her mouth like a seasoned professional. Her oral was okay and she used her ample titties to increase his frictional quotient too, Otto eating her before plowing her fuzzy snatch in several positions. Lavish was a moaner and moderately active during the vaginal ride, milking his population pudding far too quickly for the resulting titty pop.

Scene Three: Saddle Sex: Tenaya, the skinny bleach blond featured on the right side of the front cover, was up next, showing her appreciation to cowpoke Claudio Meloni when he brought her father's saddle back. The obvious goofiness at his role aside, she earned her place on the cover by wearing a Hustler t-shirt, looking up at the guy as she inhaled his pecker with practiced ease. The action seemed a bit forced here and more lead in might have helped sell the premise better but they each did some decent oral on one another before a moderately active ride, the scene easily the best of the batch by far, even to the point of making want to see more of her in future efforts. Tenaya might not be on the level of a solid performer in my book (not yet anyway) but at least she embodied the spirit of the series fairly well, a rarity these days. The vaginal bout of boning led to her taking a chest pop, the minimal spew running down her torso as the scene closed out.

Scene Four: Motorcross Muffs: Starri Knight, the cute pigtailed gal seen on the left side (second from the bottom), was up next with equally attractive Kendra Banx, the gal seen on the left side second from the top. The theme of the day was about motocross racing gals liking each other a whole lot, slowly peeling off each other's clothing as they kissed, caressed, and went down on each other. The music was too loud compared to the vocals and that threw me off a bit too much but it struck me as another decent scene for the concept of newcomers learning their way in porn, the almost erotic manner in which they savored their juices kind of hot, some playful laughing selling me on it. Fans of toys will like that a glass one was used but this scene showed how choppy the camera work and editing could be.

Scene Five: Hot Tub Honey: Angie Dove, the sweet looking gal on the top of the left hand side, was up last with Sascha in the hot tub, the theme of the day being a generic "brother's mooch of a friend" hanging out completely overdone. She wore a bikini and he was naked, the dare leading to her taking off her clothing and kissing him but the vocals again taking a backseat to the aural experience. They kissed and she worked his cock like it was a brand new experience for her, leading to a moderately active ride after several passive positions of vaginal sex. She showed some potential but most of unrealized, the pained look on her face the first thing she needs to work on as far as I'm concerned. The scene ended with a mouth pop too, Angie obviously forgetting to stop her generic moans once he stopped pumping inside of her pussy.

Summary: Barely Legal 92 by director Erica McLean for Hustler Video was decent enough compared to recent volumes in the series, the standard definition version of the movie meriting a rating of Rent It from me just as the better looking high definition Blu-ray made the ladies look substantially better but not enough to rescue the average replay value for me. In any case, as I am not the biggest fan of newcomers to begin with, your mileage may vary substantially so check it out if you have enjoyed the series to date. In short, Barely Legal 92 was populated with a bunch of old men banging young gals with limited onscreen experience so if that works for you a whole lot, consider picking up a copy for your own hand to gland pleasure. If you seek out youthful ladies having sex with plenty of rough edges (let's face it, they just aren't as polished as more experienced performers), you may well think this is a great title to get and spending the extra money for the high definition version or the still-fetching standard version is not the worse way you could go to upgrade your spank bank collection, it just lacked enough material compared to other titles to stand above the pack.
