Extras: The most noticeable extra was a separate disc called “Porn in the Disco Era”, about an hour of really old porn clips with a weird soundtrack. While I’d rather have a lengthy selection of company scenes in the “best of” variety (Jordan has shot a lot of great ass-centric scenes over the years), it set the mood for those too young to remember what porn from the “good old days” was like. The second disc was strictly devoted to extras as well, a 152:56 minute long Behind the Scenes feature showing the cast learning to dance, having some fun on set, and giving interviews. There was also a photogallery and a pop shot loop from the scenes.

Audio/Video Quality: Saturday Night Fever XXX was presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Jordan Septo for Exquisite. This version was offered up in standard definition using the usual MPEG-2 encoding, the video bitrate varying quite a bit though seemingly hovering around the 4.5 Mbps area when spot checked. The lighting varied substantially but looked appropriate for the movie elements in each scene, the fleshtones accurate and the editing appearing to show some care as an homage to the original mainstream hit from decades ago (yes, I saw it in the theaters). While not a mirroring parody as other genre titles have been (the kind that simply copy the mainstream title as closely as possible but add some sex), it did offer up (as the director suggested recently) more of an homage to the original, pornifying elements as needed to make for a better entertainment value. The technical aspects as shot by cameraman Paul Woodcrest were nicely done in most areas of the production, including some stock shots to help add context. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps audio bitrate, the score by Jeffrey Bryan adding some hint of the original flick while the vocals were always clearly heard. In all, the balance of elements (both aural and visual) were well done.

Body of Review: Jordan Septo is an acclaimed gonzo director for Exquisite, his modest attempts at parodies raising a smile but hardly the stuff of legend by comparison to his other works. In an attempt to change all that, he took great efforts to make Saturday Night Fever XXX, a fuck flick he calls more of an homage to the John Travolta dance classic from the 1970’s than a true parody. Going into the show, I thought back to when I saw the original with some friends, the themes of the movie less important to me then than the music that literally spun a dance craze across the nation (and world). With Seth Gamble in the leading role, Kristina Rose and Allie Haze the ladies vying for his sexual attentions, I certainly had some doubts until several minutes into the show where the combination of visual elements, Jeffery Bryan’s music, and Seth’s handling of the character won me over. The little aspects of the movie all combined to remind me of the original more than consider it a copy with all the usual porn aspects tossed in for good effect, the lengthy BTS extras showing me some of the things worked on to make this stand out from previous efforts by the director.

Summary: Saturday Night Fever XXX by director Jordan Septo for Exquisite was a bit loose in terms of the homage aspects of the production and the sexual trysts not nearly as passionate in most cases as the gonzo works by Septo that I so frequently found favor with, but as an entertaining piece of porn Americana, I found my toe tapping to the music and my cock throbbing to the action so I rated it as Recommended or better depending on your personal tastes in a porn parody. The original was outwardly about the music and dancing but really about the trappings of life for young people, the porn covering a lot of ground in addressing some of the same material (from a porn angle of course), missing a bit as a true homage but surely worth checking out as a stroke flick thanks to the ladies such as Kristina Rose, Allie Haze, and Lexi Belle among others. In short, Saturday Night Fever XXX may not be a truly superior parody in the current understanding of the word but it had a lot of heart, showed some dedication to the original, and was more than “just a porn parody” compared to most titles on the market so give it a look and have some fun.
