When my XCritic colleague Rob Perez interviewed Kelly Shibari and jessica drake a few months ago, he used the term “groundbreaking” more than once, and that felt necessary and right on. There’s not a lot of porn that takes in-depth looks at body positivity, and tries to reinforce confidence among viewers (or if there is, it doesn’t happen across my desk). It’s important for porn to be made that has a purpose beyond temporary ecstasy and titillation.

This disc is divided into two parts, with the first being a conversation about sex with people whose body type fits outside of what you can expect from most performers in porn. It is a mixture of real life couples and stars of the film. It’s hosted by Kelly Shibari, who I always found incredibly beautiful and sexy. The second half is three short-ish scenes with BBW performers Kelly Shibari, Devlyn Red, Angel DeLuca, and Scarlet Lavey. The latter two performers are in a lesbian scene together.

Scene one: Kelly Shibari and Derrick Pierce

Viewers are given the choice of whether or not to watch with the audio commentary from Kelly Shibari. I chose that option, as it was the default. Kelly narrates her own scene with Derrick Pierce. First she acknowledges how unusual that is. She notes that Pierce begins to pay attention to her stomach, which she was self-conscious about. She talks about the importance of laughter in love-making. In the scene, he is dedicated to her pleasure. Some time is spent with Kelly having her pussy licked. She also talks about how she enjoys being fucked on her back with one leg in the air. She calls it a modified version of missionary. She also talks about why larger women enjoy being fucked doggy-style. Yet, she is cognizant of her partner’s needs too. For example, she discusses how it isn’t an erogenous zone for most women between their breasts, but said that male partners get pleasure from the friction. It was a sexy scene because it featured two performers who are attractive and attracted to each other, but there was also the bonus of having it explained as to what Kelly Shibari gets pleasure from.

Scene two: Devlyn Red and Dick Chibbles

The second scene is meant to illustrate the pleasures of shower sex. I was struck by just how gorgeous Devlyn Red is. The scene has an audio commentary from Kelly Shibari, as well, but she doesn’t talk as much during the scene. Likely because she couldn’t speak with such authoritativeness as to what turns Devlyn on. I watched it without the audio and it plays like a very hot shower scene. It builds slowly, but it works because it encourages viewers to explore sex with their partners in a way that is comfortable and stimulating.

Scene three: Scarlet Lavey and Angel DeLuca

The third instructional scene has two women paired together because they have similar sizes, and the results are quite sexy. The heavily-tatted Scarlet Lavey and the tatted Angel DeLuca look natural when paired together. They both have great, curvy bodies. I enjoyed hearing Kelly Shibari talk about the joys of strap-on sex during the audio commentary. Yet part of the reason this scene works so well is, like the others, it reinforces body positivity and provides stimulating porn. The scene has Scarlet fucking Angel with a strap-on and Angel returning the favor with a wand vibrator. It’s just fucking hot.

Video and audio:

Video is short in anamorphic HD with a 16/9 (1.78/1) ratio. The video and audio are both good, and each scene includes audio commentary from Kelly Shibari, or the standard sex scene without.

Extras:

DVD extras include a scene featuring Sovereign Syre and Chastity Lynn from jessica drake’s Guide to Wicked Sex: Women to Women. There are also some trailers and an ad for Wicked’s line of sex enhancers (lubes, etc…).

Final thoughts:

jessica drake deserves a lot of credit not just for featuring an addition to her instructional series about plus-size sex, but by doing it with such care and attention. Everything felt appropriate, including the interviews at the beginning (the first 42 minutes) with regular people and porn performers. So much of the adult industry is catering to an unlikely fantasy (and that’s why we love it so much), but here, drake and host/star Kelly Shibari seem intent on making that fantasy more of a reality and leading to better sex from its viewers. Plus it reinforces body positivity for men and women. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There is also a versatility with it working as either an instructional video with hot sex, or hot sex with instructional video. jessica drake and Kelly Shibari give us porn that we need, rather than what we think we want. I’m not used to porn that makes you a better person for watching it, but that is what this is.
