Audio/Video Quality: Virtual Sex With Katsumi was presented in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen color as shot for Digital Playground. The lighting was very crisp this time in an apparent effort to enhance Katsumi's look that the harsh lights of most virtual sex releases would not handle as well. I prefer the harsher lights since they allow for the viewer to see every nook and cranny of the gal with crystal clarity but that's a notion that not everyone agrees with (Katsumi would look good wearing just about anything to her fans); thankfully seeing Katsumi pull off the heat due to her looks and tight body. There were no compression artifacts (the bitrate looking to maintain a high level in the 7 to lower 8 Mbps) and the clips were advertised as being shot on HD (high definition) so perhaps future releases will enhance the visual portions of the movie. The audio was presented in the usual 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround stereo in English (at 384 Kbps). I could hear everything she said and the music in the background of a few sections (tease and stories) was generic enough. The vocals were perfectly balanced this time, showing none of the audio flaws some of the earlier volumes in the series had. For the record though, there was little separation between the channels and limited dynamic range but since the vocals all came from a single source, there probably wasn't a lot that could've changed that fact.

Body of Review: Katsumi is a gal well known in porn circles for her gonzo performances and relative lack of sexual limits. Awhile back, she joined Digital Playground as a contract performer and has only recently been really active in their releases, now using the name “Katsuni” thanks to some reported legal troubles. In terms of her place at the company compared to the other performers on staff, she adds experience and a full Asian look that even her exotic peers don’t provide, catering to the market for such ladies quite well. As is common for the company, now that she has been with them for awhile, she is now being given her own starring role in various series, the latest being Virtual Sex With Katsumi, You know the score; Katsumi is in a plain room and offers up various sexual clips of her and Scott Nails engaging in a variety of actions, a slight nod to teasing taking place during her strip and stories stages before the viewer can control what kinds of stuff she will do, as well as her attitude being naughty or nice (labeled “innocent” here). That there are also the usual two camera angles that are seemingly shot at the exact same time is nice for replay value, but the mileage will vary depending on how much you like Katsumi and/or virtual sex games like this one. There were no condoms but before I go too far, the male pop shots (which I generally refer to as population pudding) looked faked, from the creampies to the rubbed out loads, but at least they weren’t the computer generated images (CGI) of the older titles in the series.

As always, Virtual Sex With Katsumi provides a set number of positions and sex acts, each offered up with the ability to have her talk dirty (in nasty mode) or seductive (in nice mode) as well as have her male partner ejaculate his load of population pudding. Unlike some of the earlier volumes in the series, the pop shot was not generated using computer graphics (CGI) although it did leave the impression of being something other than actual semen as the internal vaginal creampies seemed too thick to be real. In any case, it certainly looked better than the first and second generation attempts at pop shots, Katsumi squeezing them out on command as it were.

The first bit where Katsumi was given a chance to seduce was during a short Striptease in black lingerie. The pleasant music never detracted from the lovely lady and she kept slowly shaking her moneymaker in a heated manner. That led to a Stories section where she would continue dancing in a few bikinis (and various other outfits that showed her lean figure to full advantage). At any time, you could skip to the foreplay or sex portions of the show. In the Foreplay section, you could select fingers, a vibrator, titty massage, and ass rub to warm her up, applying the nasty/nice dynamic. There was also an Oral section where she would pretend that someone was going down on her, though that has long been a weak point of the series. The sex portion included the usual four positions, reverse cowgirl, doggy, cowgirl and missionary as well as a titty fuck, foot sex, and anal sex position where she would pleasure her scene partner off with.

There really isn’t a lot to say about this time of show (or videogame as I generally refer to it when discussing them with friends). You either like them or you don’t, just like specific performers will appeal to specific fans more than others. With various competitors stealing the thunder from stalwarts like Digital Playground and Digital Sin (the two that have been in the game longest), titles like these seem ready for a grand make over. Perhaps with the advent of the newer formats, especially blu-ray, I hope the company will look at reinventing the genre to breathe new life into it. I like Katsumi/Katsuni plenty and wish her well so I can safely say that her fans will probably enjoy this one but it was a mixed bag for me overall.

Summary: Virtual Sex With Katsumi by Digital Playground was a nice tribute to contract performer Katsumi and there was enough raw footage of her in action to rate this as a Rent It for the general population while fans should consider this one a “must have” when it comes out at the end of the month. I just want something a bit more advanced and Virtual Sex With Katsumi was like a left over from the last decade since the genre at Digital Playground has yet to advance very much, despite some minor window dressing with ass rubs and foot fetish work.
