The Kama Sutra - that well known "how-to" guide for lovers that has been the subject of countless books and videos.  Well, now you can add this DVD to the mix - though it pares down the hundreds from the original text to to just 16 positions.  Have no fear, though, as what is presented here should provide hours of fun in the bedroom.

The Feature

Instructional videos can be a blessing or a curse.  On one hand, the scenes are straight to the point - no need for prolonged images of foreplay.  In this case, one can safely assume that it has already occurred.  However, if you need plots or story lines to hold your interest, then this style might not tickle your fancy.  That said, this video gives you just what you need to emulate the performers and (hopefully) enhance your sex life.

With each scene running about 6 minutes - there isn't any time for fluff.  The scenes begin with the couples in the position, and end with their climax (sometimes no visible, and sometimes ending with him cumming on her chest).

Position 1 (The Standing Dolphin)The man stands while the woman has only her upper body on the edge of the bed.  He penetrates her while lifting her lower body. Definately for the strong.

Position 2 (Tigress by the Tail) -  Most often referred to a "reverse cowgirl", the man will lie on his back while the woman rides him while facing towards his feet.

Position 3 (The Arc of Love) - With both facing each other (sitting position), the man supports the woman as she leans back (though she uses her arms for support as well).

Position 4 (Filling the Well) - With the woman on her back - her legs on his shoulders - the man penetrates but moves in a circular motion (not thrusting).  This position allows for a deeper penetration, and a greater climax for her.

Position 5 (The Clip Position) - You may know this one as the cowgirl position.  Again, with the man lying down, she rides (facing forward) - using her arms to support her movements.

Position 6 (Foreplay the Milky Way) - From a seated position, the girl will ride him (her back to his front).  This position allows manual stimulation of the clit.

Position 7 (Lotus) - Flexible?  You'll need to be to handle this one.  The lady will be on her back, legs crossed - allowing for a g-spot hitting penetration.  This one is on my list to try as soon as possible.

Position 8 (The Thigh Master) - A variation on the reverse cowgirl - the difference here is that the man keeps his knees bent so that her stomach is touching his legs.  She can then use her hands on his knees in order to control her movement.

Position 9 (The Gargoyle) - Using the doggie style position, the man positions himself almost above her and penetrates via a "squat."  Another g-spot stimulating position.

Position 10 (Yawning) - Again, with the woman lying on her back - her legs up and around him - he enters her from an upright position.  Deeper penetration and manual stimulation helps her explode in delight.

Position 11 (Splitting of the Bamboo) - A twist on the Yawning position, this time with one leg on his shoulder and the other straight.  He can use the raised leg to get deep thrusts while manually stimulating her clit.

Position 12 (The Sphinx) - Simply stated - the is a rear-entry position where she lies flat on her stomach and he enters from behind.  Simple.  Easy.  A classic.

Position 13 (Indrani Rocks) - Very much like the Filling the Well position, but with her taking control of the depth of penetration.  She uses her arms to push/pull herself against him.

Position 14 (The Waterfall) - With him sitting on a chair, she sits facing him and leans back until her head in on the floor.  In this position, he controls the movement - so one must be strong to handle this one.  This position also allows him to lean forward and play with her breasts as well as manually stimulate her.

Position 15 (The Cascade) - Taking the Waterfall one step farther - he stands up.  The was the one position that we had the most difficulty with - but if at first you don't succeed ....

Position 16 (The Grip) - A variation of the missionary position, she locks her legs around his waist and allows him to lift her during intercourse.  Strength is needed for this one, too, but the resulting orgasm can be explosive.

Audio/Video

Shot in HD, the picture quality here is beautiful and clear.   Whether set in a bedroom, or poolside - the environments are always clean and lend allow the viewer to focus on the couples as the present the different positions.  The talent is attaractive, and do come across as enjoying the positions.  In addition, the male cast have different body types, which shows that you don't have to be a bodybuilder to take on the challenges of the positions.

The Dolby digital sound is not overpowering, and (since this is an instuctional presentation), the only dialogue is that of Dr. Kat Van Kirk as she introduces and explains each of the positions.  The main focus here is the demostrations of each position, and (other than general moans as she expresses her delight) the only other sound is that of the soundtrack - which is a new-age / Middle Eastern blend (and - as a bonus - is included as a stand-alone CD!).

The Extras

Besides being able to select the specific position segment you want to view, the disc also contains:

Behind The Scenes (15 min) - Standard fare, taken from the crew's viewpoint.  We see talent being prepped for the shot, as well as conversations with the camera about the production.

Photo Gallery (3 min) - Still photos set to music - features the performers against a white background in the various positions from the feature.

Bonus Scene - "Cafe Amore" starring Rocco Reed and Dana DeArmond - When Vincent gives Beth her own cafe, she returned the favor by giving him the first special of the day.  She blindfolds him, proceeds to deepthroat him, then goes from position to position until he delivers the frosting to her chest.

The Insert - Multi-page booklet that features descriptions of each of the 16 positions from the feature, along with a photo of the performers in said position.

Disc 2 - This is where the extras really shine.  Included with the DVD is an audio CD that features 11 tracks from the feature.  The music is a soothing, sort of new-age style that really helps set the mood for the erotic Kama Sutra action.   I could certainly see this disc being used long after the DVD has been put away.

Final Thoughts

Having been with my wife for a number of years, it has been one of my desires to add something to our sex life to spice things up.  Since having another girl join us is out, introducing new positions to our lovemaking seemed like a good way to go.  This video presents 16 new ways that we can put our bodies together and achieve sexual bliss.

As far as instructional videos go, the feature is first-rate.  Each position segment gets right to the point, with only limited dialogue at the beginning of each.   Each scene is shot so that everything is in view, and there are no extreme close-ups (there really is no need here).  With clean and clear visuals, and a soundtrack that really hightens the mood (the bonus CD is a major plus), my wife and look forward to continuing our attempts to master each and every position presented.  And while we haven't managed to do all of them (yet) it is certainly a challenge we look forward to taking on.  Highly Recommended.
