Audio/Video Quality: The Casting Couch was presented in anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Kevin Moore for Evil Angel in POV (point of view) fashion. These days, Kevin is one of the most prolific POV camera operators in the business whether he is credited for a production or not and he brings a fairly steady, even competent, approach to working with the ladies but perhaps best when he is the actual male performer as he was here. The cameras he uses may not be ultra high definition or Red One system but they are small enough that he gets some good shots under virtually all circumstances as he did here, the addition of security camera footage (simulated or not) giving this title a different look for him at times, the flesh tones accurate and the editing okay. The company watermark was ever present on the lower right corner but it generally did not bug me like it gets to some folks, though it did stand out at times here like a sore thumb, my general opinion of the visuals that they were handled slightly better than average even if I like his fetish work better (panties and asses and tits, oh my!). The aural aspects of the show were handled in 2.0 Dolby Digital according to my player, leaving me no doubt the vocals were captured via the camera and not a boom microphone to be processed later. I could hear much of what was said but there were some times when the vocals were not consistent, something to be expected on a gonzo type of project, with the post production process cleaning things up a bit.

Body of Review: Kevin Moore is often considered an underrated director on the edge of getting the acclaim he deserves according to my discussions with some in the industry, his low profile keeping him out of the public eye though his work for companies like Evil Angel helping to build his fanbase over the years. Recently, he released a new title called The Casting Couch, a departure from his many fetish series and by the looks of it, a new series in the making. Using Kevin as the sole male talent and a POV camera angle augmented by security camera looking back up cameras, he portrays what are supposed to be newcomers auditioning for him; an approach that doesn’t always work too well given the ladies here. The ladies were not newcomers as you may have heard, two of them quite well known and the other two offering a mixed porn resume (one of them is best known for some web work best described as shot by untrained monkeys, making me burst out laughing when I found it was footage shot by a certain gossiping hillbilly). In any case, there was definitely some potential for this series to grow into something interesting, I just found it paling compared to Kevin’s better works of late for himself or for Lex. Summary: The Casting Couch by director Kevin Moore for Evil Angel really lacked that something special I expect of him these days. As a meat puppet himself, his camera work gets better each year and his manly man skills were decent enough, the issue here being the premise needed to be retooled a bit and the women upgraded. All four ladies had enough value as eye candy and no one is going to convince me that Juelz is anything less than a yummy babe with great performing skills, Madelyn showing as much potential as she typically does in all her scenes too, Chloe and Cherry’s scenes just did not click for me at all and not for lack of wanting them too, both come to their scenes with a lot but didn’t do it for me so I rated this as a Rent It, I’m sure fans of the specific ladies involved might disagree with me or the usual fanboys catering to egos will refuse to be honest but it was still worth a look or two. In short, The Casting Couch drew me in based on the front cover, not easy to do to this jaded old critic, but it lacked the meat to seal the deal for a better rating, I can almost guarantee that Kevin will improve on subsequent volumes based on his past performance so give it a look on a slow day, just don’t get your hopes up.
