Audio/Video: A lot of scenes shot in dark rooms or at night, though the video quality seems to have been enhanced for this release and looks clean and crisp. Sound quality was mixed, with some scenes coming in clear and others a little muddled.

Overview: A pretentious try at making an epic kind of porn film with an underground strip club as the axle on which multiple plots and personalities revolve around.

Review: This appears to have been a large undertaking for Stagliano, with some real filmmaking effort behind it. However, looking at it now it appears laughable in the extreme. There is way too much overacting and drama and the thought of all of that wrapped around a porn film is amusing. I know there have been some good porn offerings with plot and some porn stars can get away with acting (in scenes that don't call for much, of course). But, Shadow Dancers just doesn't make the grade. It is way too dark and dramatic a delivery vehicle for porn; for people having sex, yes, but not for pornography, which in my mind is another animal.

Now, with that said, as a historical piece of porn it is quite interesting and there are scenes here that will deliver the looked-for excitement that we buy porn for. In particular, Lauren Brice was one of the hottest actresses back then and she does not surrender anything to today's enhanced firecrackers. Her scenes are really erotic and will make you very excited, which is what porn is meant to do. Her scenes are very replayable and will be why I watch this in the future.It is interesting to see Nina Hartley from long ago and also Randy Spears. Stagliano himself is in some sex scenes and I wished he had not done so as he is not appealing to look at. 

Final Thoughts: As one who saw a lot of early porn on tape and then onward to the present I feel qualified to assess stuff from that era. There was some real good stuff, even back in the 1970's, but this one bored the hell out of me for most of its running. Therefore, I give this one a Rent It rating.
