Extras: The best extra was the 13:38 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Chris King that focused on providing some interviews of the cast (director Thomas walking around in a neck brace during parts of it). There was also a slip cover for the case, a “pick your pleasure” menu, a photogallery, some trailers, and spam for lingerie & the company.

Audio/Video Quality: Shared Wives was presented in anamorphic widescreen as shot by director Paul Thomas for New Sensations. Ralph Parfait handled the director of photography role and Michael Kahn was the assistant director, Shylar Cobi serving as production manager while “Thor” took care of audio and Jess & James Mitchell took care of lighting. There was a company watermark in the lower right hand corner of the cover and the lighting was more natural than most porn features, trading the flat & even look for all sorts of shadows and textures one might expect of the varied settings. Of note were plenty of extras in no sex roles and some establishing shots unrelated to the sex, nice touches given the multitude of cutbacks the industry has engaged in of late. The music and vocals were fair enough in the standard 2.0 Dolby Digital English channels but nothing out of the ordinary either. The editing seemed somewhat rushed at times but was otherwise okay, some of the sex scenes showing less care than the feature elements.

Body of Review: Paul Thomas is a director that has been around since the golden age of porn, his decision to try his hand at a variety of companies such as directing for New Sensations under their brand spanking new “Swingers” series allowing him some freedom from the doom and gloom fuck flicks he used to spend the majority of his time on. The first title in the series is a short flick called Shared Wives, the movie a showcase for Jessie Andrews and Richie Calhoun more than anyone else. Both were good in their roles as were the likes of Andy San Dimas, Eric Swiss, and gals like Lexi Belle and Gracie Glam. The theme of the movie was how a few couples wanted to experiment sexually by trying new things, the lifestyle of swinging (including others in what was formerly a monogamous relationship) the end result. My own experience with new swingers is limited since most I have played with were seasoned swappers, but it was a cute story with some nice sex to spice things up for porn newcomers. The back cover described the movie like this: “Karla and Gabe are a loving couple looking to spice up the sexual side of their marriage. Gabe has a fantasy of seeing his wife with another man, and Karl, apprehensive yet intrigued, shares this little secret with her co-worker, Mindy. As luck would have it, Mindy is seeking more attention from her husband Will, who seems more married to his job than her. Two couples, very much in love, that share a similar interest; the sexual fantasy of watching and being watched by the person they love. However the road to heaven is not always paved with gold. In a dramatic twist, the very thing that is intended to bring them closer together may actually tear them apart. Will their relationships be able to survive the ultimate test?”

The series will showcase high quality, feature-length films about couples involved in the lifestyle. The film is the creation of the critically acclaimed, award winning team, Screenwriter, Raven Touchstone and Director, Paul Thomas whose star-studded cast including Jessie Andrews, Andy San Dimas, Richie Calhoun, Eric Swiss, Lexi Belle, Nick Manning, and Gracie Glam bring to life a very realistic tale. Scene One: Jessie Andrews, the cute babe featured on the left side of the front cover, was up first with hotty Gracie Glam and husband Richie Calhoun. Jessie brought Gracie into the mix to spice things up, Gracie wearing a great looking body stocking but uptight Richie sending her away. After due consideration, both ladies joined him on the couch, some kissing and ass slapping leading to the ladies double teaming his pecker to slob his knob. Scene Three: Brandy Aniston, a curvy brunette with some pronounced DSL’s, was up next as she and instructor Evan Stone jumped each other in the dirty hallway. They were playing Truth or Dare and the desired effect was quickly, if a bit clumsily, presented with the minor dares and truths soon leading to the couples swapping. The ladies still gave each other a lick or two and Jessie was as fresh as Andy was focused, the ladies doing the limited range of oral and vaginal sex acts allowed of them here. It was not a bad scene though as each lady served the role they portrayed very nicely, the men coming across as more polished in their dialogue exchanges to this point but the ladies easily highlighting the sexual portions of the scene. It ended when Jessie took a load of spunk from Eric on her ass crack and Richie burst free with his ball batter on Andy’s crotch.

Summary: Shared Wives by director Paul Thomas for New Sensations was a nice change of pace from his usual darker features he is best known for but the feature elements were still much more important to him here as the sex seemed rushed or just paint by the numbers too often. Still, the entertainment value of the feature elements combined with the sex did manage to merit a respectable rating of Recommended and offer the hope that future ventures into the series might yield even better results. In short then, Shared Wives should work best for couples wanting something a bit off the beaten track in terms of hardcore sexuality or heavy features, each of the two attributes providing just enough material to encourage a discussion rather than spell everything out for those looking into the lifestyle portrayed, the show serving nicely as an entertaining little feature for those so inclined to appreciate the material.
