Video (technical): I have mixed thoughts related to the video. In commentary I've read about Jenna's Provocateur, Jenna has expounded upon the virtues of using film--rather than digital video--to capture movies. I know that many "purist" photographers prefer the so-called "lushness" of film over the "perfection" of digital. I, on the other hand, have worked with both film and digital-based images for over 30 years and I must admit that I like digital much better than film. In particular, film grain has always annoyed me...especially in portions of images that are dark. Footage in Jenna's Provocateur exhibits a great deal of grain. Yes, the image is luxuriant and rich. Yet, it's also soft and "noisy." Digital video--and high-definition in particular--is grain free and exhibits almost no noise. So, being a techno-photographer, I prefer HD DV to film. That said, the lighting, special effects, camera angles, and photography are really very good. I really suggest you watch the behind-the-scenes feature that appears on Disc 2. It shows just how much care was given to the technical aspects of filming Jenna's Provocateur. I must hand it to Jenna and her husband Justin Sterling...job well done! Overall, I liked the music-video-style editing and post-production special effects. I must admit, however, that I didn't care for some of the transitioning footage between positions. For example, sometimes a transition will consist of some shaky camera motions. Other times, footage of the electronic "clapper" (you know, the black and white board with a hinged stick on top that is clapped at the beginning of a take) will be used to transition from one position to another. I think that's corny, to say the least. And, old-fashioned footage of text announcing "Act One," "Act Two," and so forth begin each sex scene. On the other hand, I am pleased to report that the film imagery was digitized very nicely and is displayed in wide-screen format (letterboxed) on my computer monitor. Bottom line, I think the video was well done, although I disagree with both the use of film and the transitioning footage. Four and one-half stars.

Audio (technical): Although I have mixed emotions about the video, I believe the 5.1 digital audio is absolutely outstanding. First, the musical soundtrack, while being extremely supportive of the action, does not overpower the sounds of the performers. Second, although there is no "plot," per se, the words and sounds uttered by the performers are perfectly clear and audible. Finally, the audio is provided in four versions: English 5.1 Dolby Digital (both music and moans/groans), 5.1 that emphasizes the moans and groans, 5.1 that emphasizes the music, and a commentary version featuring Jenna Jameson and Justin Sterling. Five stars.

Extras: The Extras are spread across both of the two DVDs included in the collector's edition box. Disc one contains the movie and star-specific special features. For example, my "Krystal Steal" version of Jenna's Provocateur contains a nearly six-minute self-running slide show of Krystal-specific photos and an eight and one-half up-close-and personal masturbation scene that, of course, features Krystal. Disc One also contains links to several Club Jenna-related websites. Disc two contains a very informative Behind-the-Scenes featurette. It includes lots of interviews with Jenna as well as highlights of the processes (including lots of "waiting") that occurred during filming. In one tense situation, the neighbors complained about the noise the "fuckers" were making and almost shut down production. There are also trailers for several recent Club Jenna releases, six self-running photo galleries featuring the Club Jenna contract girls, and a song-by-song selection of the music, performed by Spout, that comprises the soundtrack of Jenna's Provocateur. Five stars.

Aesthetics: The production values in Jenna's Provocateur are all first class. I've already mentioned the sumptuous locations, stunning wardrobe, shimmering jewelry, and superb make-up. In addition, the music is superb. Not only are the individual pieces well written and performed, but they also expertly support the on-screen action with just the right feel at the right time. Finally, the "Special Limited Edition Collector's Series" packaging is among the best I've seen. Not only is the box itself well made and very attractive, but it also contains a 16-page booklet that recaps the scenes and the girls who make up Jenna's Provocateur. Five stars.
