Extra's: The best extras this time would be the inclusion of a standard definition version of the movie and a WMV HD-DVD (like the original Pirates by Digital Playground) version. The WMV is typically limited to playing on computers and special playback machines but does provide a nice experience for those of you not equipped with a true HD DVD player. The WMV version was in the standard 720p instead of the full fledged 1080p advertised on the cover, but that was the purview of the Blu0Ray edition. Most of you will enjoy the 2:54 minute Behind the Scenes feature where the gals played on the pit like it was a slip & slide, showered up, and found oil in all those hard to reach nookies (spelling intentional) and crannies too but it was way too short for my tastes. Then there was a 6:03 minute long Bonus Scene where Jenna, Holly Morgan, and August masturbated on an orange couch with some toys done in letterboxed form. They did start to touch each other by the end but not nearly enough and it was best left in the extras section as far as I was concerned. There was also a set of trailers but that was it. Personally, having a Blu-Ray player made the other two versions redundant as it looked and sounded the best so I really had hoped for better extras.

Audio/Video Quality: Jenna Haze Oil Orgy was presented in 1080p widescreen as distributed by Hustler for CD Girls as a reported "first" Blu-Ray porno title. The problem some of you are going to have will possibly mirror my own; the BR-D it was encoded onto the Verbatim disc (ie: a home burned disc) won't play on a Playstation 3; easily the most popular Blu-Ray player at this time. I got to use a friend's machine for a few minutes and it worked better on it, but I'm going to be the honest one here and suggest that previous reports about incompatibility issues disqualify the title from the label of first, in favor of titles that actually work. On a brighter note, the short movie was shot in 2005 (before Blu-Ray came out) and it looked pretty good, though not up to what most people consider standard for the fledgling format. The SD version of the movie was presented in anamorphic widescreen color with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 using the MPEG-2 codec with a bitrate that varied substantially from around the 5 to 7 Mbps range. The WMV HD-DVD version of the movie looked better than the SD version since it clocked in at 720p but there were some troubles playing it back without the picture freezing, particular computer DVD players working better than others (I had to use Windows Media to get it to play with the least amount of trouble). One thing to note, in the rush to get the disc to market in the Blu-Ray format, the camera selection choices were moved to the main menu and could NOT be changed on the fly as with more advanced discs (technically, this feature has been in place since the dawn of DVD, making it a pain to go between the action of the scenes; perhaps a remastering is in order?). The movie was shot in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English with the SD version showing a 192 Kbps bitrate. The vocals were too low, the music not a factor, and various background noises easily heard (like the cameramen talking, things dropped out of view of the camera, and directions given to the ladies). I'd rather there have been 3 cameramen and an audio guy holding a boom microphone to solve the problem but that was the limitation I noticed.

Body of Review: Jenna Haze has been one of the most popular gals in porn for years now, starting off as an extreme queen that did just about everything including hardcore anal to a softcore contract gal for the now defunct Jill Kelly Productions, and now back to a more moderate route where she still does almost everything but not as frequently. Her best recent work is with Jules Jordan but as she made the transition back to mainstream porn from her days at JKP, she took the time to make a dedicated title that fans should really like called Jenna Haze Oil Orgy, distributed by Hustler Video for a group called CD Girls. The movie is essentially one long scene broken into a few separate parts where the nine ladies of the cast oil up and do each other, having some fun in the process. The release was hailed by some as the first Blu-Ray porno and others pointing out the lack of replication plants that would handle porn (actually a complete lack until a lot of bad press and a particularly sweet offer from a big company came up) forced CD Girls to burn their own discs, causing potential compatibility problems. That said, here's a look at the DVD, noting that no condoms were used since no population pudding was flying about:

Jenna Haze probably could have been credited as the director since no one else took charge like she did, the four cameramen covering the standard angles on this lesbian oil orgy. The first 15 minutes of the movie was limited to the ladies being introduced by Jenna, all of them wearing shirts advertising the company until they flew off for the gals to get oiled up by the hostess with the mostess on the "custom made 20' by 10' oil pit. I could hear the cameramen shouting directions to Jenna in the background and the ladies were handed more oil by men as needed while all of the gals poured it on to make a huge mess on the expansive mattress.

The show then began what amounted to a contest where the ladies all took turns going down on Jenna, their reward being that she would go down on the one that did the best job giving her pleasure. The only problem I had here was how over the top Jenna was as she took the loving in performance fashion, appearing to fake any pleasure she received (with more of the behind the camera banter noticed by the crew). When all was said and done, Bobbi Blair of all people was selected as the winner though it seemed like Hillary Scott was better according to the comments and time spent with Jenna replying (even August seemed to provide better oral services). Jenna gave some decent head herself though and like Cousin Stevie's Pussy Party, the eye is in the beholder when it comes to what constitutes "best". The ladies all joined in to rub the oiled up Bobbi as Jenna went to town on her, adding to the orgy fun, with minor background noises distracting a bit (sounding like a microphone was dropped among other things).

The main body of the orgy then began with the gals being lubed up yet again as their naked bodies received some loving from Jenna. This was where they broke off into smaller groups that lent some replay value to the show as each camera angle served particular groups better. The licking and massaging was a lot of fun with some of the ladies showing more of a propensity to engage in toy use (there were tons of pink and flesh colored toys of all shapes). I liked that the gals were all communicative with each other as they worked each other over but the emphasis of jumping right in on the penetrative sex was not the best route to go as more individual tease would have added lasting replay value to the orgy. There also seemed to be an attempt by some of the gals to overstate their pleasure in porn performance style, perhaps as a means of drawing the attention of the cameramen towards them more frequently, the use of dissolves and cutaways preventing as much build up of heat as merely allowing the camera angles to remain static.

Technical limitations aside, the women did seem to be having a good time, it was just that I've seen most of them a lot in recent years, often giving more realistic or more strokable performances (and make no mistake about it, they were almost all, to a one, giving performances rather than genuinely into the sex much of the time). Still, seeing such a plethora of pussy doing each other like this was pretty fucking cool, better than having them engage in meat puppetry (how's that for symbolism?) with some third tier mope squad member and the next time the company tries something like this (this was their second attempt IIRC, the last one directed by Mark Kismet), maybe they will iron out some of the details.

The remainder of the movie was sort of divided into two sections, an eight minute long daisy chain where the ladies emulated some of the work of the late, great Jim Holliday, but they did not seem ready to stick with it as they continued to break off into little groups along the way. That led to a limited amount of strap on dildo action where some of the gals took dominant roles as the penetrators of pussy, making it a lot like some of the Wicked Pictures orgy movies from a few years back, albeit without the cocks involved. I've seen a lot of lesbian orgies in the past, some dating back to loops in the 1970's, then well into the 80's and various directors attempting to breathe life into them over the years; most notably in my experience being Jim Holliday (who could be argued to have learned the basics from legend Bruce Seven and then enhanced them to make the genre his own for years). This orgy lacked in a number of ways but still came across as a decent fuck flick if you're into oiled up hotties diddling each other on a large rubber coated mattress (aren't we all?).

Summary: Jenna Haze Oil Orgy as distributed by Hustler for CD Girls was a decidedly mixed blessing. That it would not play in my Blu-Ray player of choice, the Sony Playstation 3, had to be balanced out with the fun of the show and fact that it included three formatted discs, perhaps in consideration for the possibility that it would not play on the higher end format. When CD Girls remasters the disc in a true Blu-Ray format and not rely on BD-R, I will likely upgrade the rating but considering the disc retails for ~$50 and only has an hour of footage (while advertising 2+ hours, another faux pas in my opinion), it strikes me as best suited for a rating of Rent It. In short, the oiled up sexual enjoyment of Jenna Haze Oil Orgy was pretty solid, especially for fans of Jenna Haze, so I really hope the price comes down and the format issue is solved. Until then, I will consider this as much of a Blu-Ray disc as I consider the early WMV HD-DVD discs to be true HD DVD's, so buy the SD version and save money for now.
