The following is a brief review of a Blu-Ray title called Girls Gone Wild: Sex Race (Blu-Ray). I'm not familiar with the company's movies other than reading about the trials and tribulations of Joe Francis (the company owner), seeing the censored infomercials on cable in the middle of the night, and my limited experience when they came to Houston a few years back. To call the movie a porno is a bit unfair since there was no sex taking place (despite what the cover promotes) but it is a bit more risque than most fare you will find on review websites like DVD Talk the promotional copies of the company movies coming here instead of there.

The movie was advertised as an uncensored version so I expected a lot more than I got from it but to be fair, having seen the television commercials playing, I figured that this was watered down from the beginning.

This volume in the GGW series was clearly a road trip of "scenes", the gals all looking like professional strippers out to make a name for themselves (I've seen a few feature strippers advertise that they have been in the GGW series). This time, the show followed four gals in their stripper versions of race car model outfits, Erica, Jen, Kim and Amber) as they looked for thrills around the country (borrowing a motif used by several porn companies in the recent past) in this 2007 production. Starting in Boston, they would interview people with club footage of women flashing in between the same basic formula used in the last volume in the series I reviewed (Sexiest Moments #2). The gals would flash the camera with their breasts quickly in exchange for free t-shirts with the banter between them being that was all that was exchanged for their efforts. Recent reports indicate that women were actually paid for the staged set ups (at least in some cases, if not all of them) really don't bother me much, the clumsy camera work reminding me of low grade porn as much as the lame attempts of the cameraman to hit on the women (and get them to show more) almost endearing when done right.

The movie was displayed in 1.78:1 widescreen color as shot by a single handheld camera, the AVC codec employed on the burnt disc . The bitrate was typically in the upper 20 Mbps area, sometimes getting as high as 39 Mbps but more often hovering around the 28.5 mark from what I could tell. The camera jerked around a whole lot and kept from fully displaying pussy for the gals that spent most of their time emphasizing their breasts. When gals were willing to simulate any sex acts there was more footage displayed of the act but not that much; the camera cropping it as if to keep it safer from authorities than even the other volume I reviewed earlier today.

The audio was presented with a choice of a 2.0 Dolby Digital or a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround (both in English) but neither of them sounded like there was any separation between the channels. The 5.1 version was presented in 48 kHz at a 640 Kbps bitrate, the 2.0 version dropping that down to 224 Kbps but again, neither exploited any potential for aural enhancement and it was probably added in post production. I could hear the ladies speaking clearly enough in the majority of situations (particularly when they would go to a room where it was just the two of them) but the limited party segments were loud and little could be heard outside the din of the club music.

The ladies did not all introduce themselves clearly but they appeared to be lean looking strippers for the most part. The flash of panties, the breast play, and handful of gals that would reluctantly show themselves off in exhibitionist style (the rare labia sighting making me want more) but the lack of true masturbation footage left me cold so I rated this one generously as a Rent It largely because I found it a nice appetizer even if it failed as a porno. I liked the four way with Jessica, Jen, Shayna and friend on the bed using whipped cream the most but some of the others had a few sparks too. Moving from Boston Massachusetts through Connecticut through Savannah Georgia and Orlando, the ladies traveled with the tour bus and the loose ties to the action added some fun. I wanted a lot more for my money but I can't deny the appeal that built the hugely popular GGW empire made this a lot closer to getting a recommendation than the last title.

That there was a running time of under an hour (56:30 minutes including credits) and a staged feel to the entire compilation made me wish they had added some extras, combined the title with another, or otherwise make it more worthy of your hard earned dollars but this Blu-Ray title (in BDMV BD-ROM) did benefit from being highly selective about which gals to showcase (the commercials usually focus on drunk strippers from what I've seen) and a more personalized attitude by showing gals in individual settings instead of large crowd shots at clubs where they'd throw t-shirts out to the gals that flashed (both styles have their appeal). So, if you find Girls Gone Wild: Sex Race (Blu-Ray) more to your liking, by all means send me an email detailing me why it should be here instead of on a mainstream website since I'm kind of curious myself.
