It's purely nostalgia time in this collection of scenes featuring Asia Carrera and spanning her career from its beginning in 1993 to 2003, the year she retired.

The tall and beautiful Carrera (of Japanese and German descent) generally took the high road in porn, starring in classy, well-photographed features and mostly avoiding anal sex and the pure raunch of gonzo. Condoms were a common prop.

Her work is well represented here in full-length scenes culled from 11 titles. There's little or no dialogue in these softly lit, music-backgrounded sequences, with Carrera either going one on one with a guy, or playing with a guy and a girl (or girls). She wears a smile throughout, rarely gets out-of-control horny, and brings her men off with professional efficiency. There's a considerable yawn factor after you've seen the fourth or fifth of these genteel scenes.

The movies sampled are (in order): "Sweat Shop," "Angel X," "Women in Uniform," "Roadblock," "Flashpoint," "My Father's Wife," "Wicked Covergirls," "Porn Star," "Satyr," "Red Dragon" and "Satin & Lace." The last is an early work from 1993, in which New Jersey native Carrera displays pre-surgery boobs and a far from glamorous look.

There's a surplus of male performers on the DVD, but the outnumbered ladies are top-drawer, including Jill Kelly gone brunette; the pucker-mouthed, pert-breasted Stephanie Swift; and the buxom Devinn Lane, in a bit from the not-so-good old days when she wouldn't touch a cock on camera (she has since gone full-bore hardcore).

THE DVD

The scenes -- mostly in full-frame (4:3) aspect ratio, two or three in widescreen -- look and sound good enough, but most have that gauzy look of video features of the '90s -- not the bright digital clarity we've come to expect in new porn. The main menu is basic, simply leading you to each scene; there are only two chapter breaks per scene.

The extras are decent: a pop shot recap; a bonus scene from "Lost & Found," with Carrera and Jonathan Morgan; a still-frame catalogue of Wicked Pictures titles from 1999 to 2006; and trailers from "Road Trixxx" (with Devinn Lane sucking cock for real), "The Collector," "Secrets of the Velvet Ring" and "One Man's Obsession."

FINAL THOUGHTS

Fans of the exotic beauty Asia Carrera will have no complaints with this overview of her 10-year career. While Carrera rarely displays total heat, she has a sweet persona not often seen in Hardcoreland, and she is always eager to please, which counts for quite a lot. The sameness and the tameness of the scenes here, however, will leave viewers who are accustomed to more gynecologically in-depth entertainment a little cold. For most of us, a rental should suffice.
