Note: The following is a review for the Blu-Ray version of Big Ass Show 1 (Jana Cova), a title I reviewed years ago, and then more recently in the HD-DVD format. The quick version of the review is that this version was better than EITHER of those versions, albeit the improvements smaller when compared to the HD-DVD version, so if you have the Blu-Ray format, you can scarcely go wrong with this one. Since I don't have the ability to show meaningful pictures of the movie taken from the disc itself, check out this TRAILER to get a general idea of the levels of quality it offers up, noting that the disc is much better than that too.

Extra's: Seeing as how the movie lasted nearly the full two hours most of us like to see, the extras weren't as crucial as they are during one of the shorter volumes in the series so the inclusion of a photogallery, a slide show, and trailers to shows like Pirates II, Island Fever 4 Blu-Ray, Cheerleaders BR, Babysitters BR, Pirates BR, Jack's Teen America 3 BR, Island Fever 3 BR, and others.

Audio/Video Quality: Big Ass Show 1 Blu-Ray was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color it was shot in by director Robby D. for Digital Playground using a full 1080p resolution and the AVC codec to provide a substantially improved picture from the SD version that came out long ago. Digital had the foresight to shoot using the latest technology and their back catalog is only now being released in Blu-Ray so expect a lot of improvements as the company becomes handier with the new formats. This is one of those times when the enhanced picture was enough to merit a double dip by true fans of the ladies and I really appreciated some of the subtle improvements over the HD version I saw not long ago. Still, the slightly rough look of the project added some charm to the feature and while Robby has certainly become more competent in shooting high definition flavored porn, the composition of the shots always favored the ladies. The grain of the original and compression artifacts were minimized and the resolution was great enough that what once looked like solid colored walls could now be seen to have some texture to them (and holes). The bitrate was often reaching 24 Mbps this time, a marked elevation from the HD version (tremendously so compared to the SD version) though I caution people to not assume there is a direct translation between the numbers. The fleshtones were accurate and the blacks almost as solid as some of Robby's latest works. The audio was presented with the upgraded 5.1 Dolby Digital English using 448 Kbps under the 48 kHz setting that sounds almost as if you are there on a good system and the improvements were slighter here with little separation between the speakers in most cases, but some added clarity of the vocals all the same. As time marches on, porn audio tracks have not marched along as much as their mainstream counterparts, an area that I note with increasing frequency, but some of the hiss I got when I turned up the SD version to high levels was not as obvious so the dynamic range was enhanced as well as the thump of the bass; most of which I believe were added in post production.

Body of Review: Robby D. is one of those curious guys that makes you wonder at times. His ability to shoot guerrilla styled porn better than most of his peers under a variety of circumstances that would cause mainstream directors and independents alike to run away yet he stays in the field rather than makes the jump to mainstream (even his largest budgeted porn would pale in comparison to a low budget mainstream flick). This tells me that he likes what he's doing as opposed to the many that get into the field because they couldn't even hack it in government work (often referred to as the last bastion of the barely employable by those of us in the private sector). Today's review is of his latest adventure in the Jack's Playground series called The Big Ass Show Blu-Ray, where the focus was definitely on showcasing some of the finest asses in porn. Set between Jack's Playground: 28 and the upcoming volume 29, the show lacked the comedic value in most cases of the regular series but made up for it in providing a lot more fuck for the buck than the series tends to do these days. If you like seeing booties shaking, gyrating, and otherwise getting into the mix, you're going to like this one as much as I did so here's a quick look at the scenes from the show by cast and action, noting that most of the gals did not do anal as I had originally guessed (it wasn't advertised as providing that so I give it a walk in this regard):

Scene One: Lacie Heart, a cute little bleach blonde with a very pleasing ass, was up first in a scene with Scott Nails, in one of the standard locations for the spin off series Teen America: 11. While there wasn't much tease footage of her by herself this time, her ass was tight and Robby's camera work seemed to enhance it more than a little bit and I was ready to see her to her act in no time. I haven't seen nearly enough of this gal to make a definitive judgment about her long term appeal but this scene was a nice showcase for her and should be used by her agent as a virtual resume given how well she did in it. The couple initially skipped the oral in favor of him poking her pussy as she gyrated on top of him and rode him with lots of passion. Scene Two: Flower Tucci, one of the best anal queens in porn these days, is nothing short of fantastic when doing anal and fans of junk in her trunk that look beyond her admittedly noticeable stretch marks ("Montel's" comments about a bear clawing his way up her to get to the ass did not go unnoticed but he had a point) will always be treated to a fine display of skill by this hotty. If you like gals who are somewhat tighter in terms of muscle tone than gals like Flower, she'll drive you crazy with her skill. Scene Four: Monique Madison, the brunette seen on the left hand side of the front DVD cover, was up next by the outdoor pool used frequently in the My First Porn series, with Jerry. The natural sunlight worked very nicely for her as did the scenery with the guys ogling her like most of us would have (if given the chance of course) before some oil was applied to her curvy derriere. I can't tell you how much this kind of lighting appeals to me when handled correctly and Robby's skill with lighting puts him in the rare category of making the most of it so the visual appeal of her ass was off the scale here. Her face might not be on my top ten list but her body was a fine tuned machine worth every penny spent on the scene. Scene Five: Jana Cova, one of my favorite former contract performers and the featured blond hotty on the front DVD cover, was up next in a lengthy solo masturbation scene on the rug. I think I preferred the tease of her in the initial montage where she wore a blue stain set of shorts over the formless white stretch pants but even wearing a burlap sack, she'd be a sight to behold in this sense. Scott orally worked her crack over before she reciprocated with a nice blowjob that displayed her true sense of passion (sultry tease gyrations aside, she can do it all from what I've seen). Summary: Big Ass Show Blu-Ray or Jack's Playground Big Ass Show 1 Blu-Ray (depending on who you listen to), was one of those rare times when I'm glad the show coursed away from the usual formula of a series in order to provide some serious fuck for the buck stroking material. Most of the volumes in the series provide closer to 90 minutes of footage and even that is split up by the addition of the comedy bits. That makes the nearly two hours of straight up fucking, teasing, and other sexual elements a huge bargain since so many of the scenes were solid in terms of replay value. It sure didn't hurt that the lovely Jana Cova represented the contract team or that anal queens like Flower Tucci were on hand to offer up some great sex either but even the technical values seemed better than average this time. For all that it had to offer, I rate it as Highly Recommended, though better extras might've made the decision easier on me. In general though, I liked this almost as much as some of Robby's experiments in his My First Porn series or his first volume of Control (albeit as a limited version of either) so if you've enjoyed any of the Jack series, I think you'll find this one worthy of you time and money too; especially with the enhanced visual impact of this enhanced version of the movie.
