Extra's: Platinum X Pictures releases are well known for providing not only a lot of fuck for the buck but great extras too. This DVD was no exception and the extras started off with over 29 minutes of Behind the Scenes (by Juan Cuba) material of the cast and crew during various aspects of the shoot. That's a lot of BTS and none of it involved putting on tons of make up (there was a lot of sex and nudity). That was followed by a cum shot recap from the scenes that some fans seem to enjoy, a 4.5 minute long session of photoshoots with Sammie, Hailey and Sandra, a photogallery, some trailers, and a double sided DVD cover. While there was no extra scene this time, I liked what was here a lot since it gave the DVD some replay value.

Audio/Video Quality: Sperm Smiles 1 was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color that it was originally shot in by director Jessica Dee. I thought the entire production had some solid visual aspects, including decent lighting, camera angles, and composition, with the shadows and grain minimal most of the time. There were some edits that could've used a bit more work and I'd have preferred the camera pull back more but overall, it looked very good to me. The audio was more basic in its approach and the stereo English wasn't much used to effect here with the performers essentially moaning and carrying on like they were on fire.

Body of Review: Jessica Dee was one of the more attractive gals performing in porn last year before she became something of a victim of the AIDS crisis that rocked the porn industry. Those of you who've seen her in action know that the loss went beyond the mere loss of a disposable cog in a great machine but rather than shy away from the facts, she gathered herself up and made the most of a bad situation when superstar Jewel De'Nyle made her an offer to direct for Platinum X Pictures. This was no pity party though, Jessica was expected to earn her keep and with a handful of titles under her belt, it seems as though she may well become an integral part of the PXP Empire. If the first title of hers that I've been able to review, Sperm Smiles 1, is any indication of her directorial talent, I think us fans have found the silver lining for the cloud she fell under last year. A series of five gonzo hardcore scenes driven by the talent more than some artistic baloney like a number of pretentious directors have gone for these days, the show managed to make me think that I'll be happy to enjoy more of her work in the future. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, each of them ending with a face full of sperm as the title would suggest:

Scene One: Jada, a strong black gal with large breasts and huge areolas, began the show by teasing the camera as she masturbated and talked dirty. Her partner for the scene was gentleman Steve was seemed genuinely pleased to be working with this beefy babe. After she did some solo work with a glass dildo, he took over and the oral, vaginal, and anal action were all done with a moderate amount of energy. That she liked tasting her own juices was a given and I think she's better than I usually give her credit for. The scene ended with her taking a big load on her face, signaling the truth in advertising for the cover title.

Scene Two: Sammie, the exceptionally hot blonde from the front DVD cover, crawled her way up to Manuel on a couch as she showed off her sweet ass for the camera. Fans know that she's not a one trick pony as her breasts are pretty darned nice too (natural is always better for me). He went down on her to warm her sweet self up and she returned the favor soon afterwards by giving a very solid blowjob. I went into the scene figuring she'd have her trademark energy (she didn't let me down) but I think I was a bit surprised at the level of chemistry she had with this guy. In short, I think she got off with him as though they were close before the scene began. In any case, the oral turned to vaginal and she even offered herself up for him in several positions that appeared uncomfortable before it ended with a large splooging to her pretty face. Whew!

Scene Three: Hailey, something of a closely guarded secret in porn these days (maybe she should hire someone to promote her efforts), had nothing to prove given her recent movies but showed John exactly why she's so good in bed. I admit that the fishnet outfit she had on turned me on a lot more than some of the other slutware of the show but the way she dove right in to sticking a vibrator up her lovely ass and taste it afterward showed her perchance for passion. While I admit that she could use a bit of a make over, one doesn't find her combination of sexual ability, willingness, and passion every day so I could overlook the minor flaws that she's probably already polished away. In any case, the tease footage alone worked for me but John's no slouch in the sex department either and the two did a good job with oral, vaginal and especially anal. Yum!

Scene Four: Victoria, a curvy brunette wearing sexy red fishnet lingerie, and Tee, were up next in a scene that seemed half as long as most of the others to me. She was not the most attractive gal in the movie to me but fans of interracial sex will appreciate that she took care of a brother in this scene. Rather than dance around the sex acts, Tee drove his bone home right away and hammered away at her tight ass while she moaned aloud about it. I didn't feel a lot of chemistry this time but the energetic mechanics of the action will suit most fans of hard core anal action. Like the other scenes, it ended with a gob of goo on her mouth.

Scene Five: Sandra, a curvy brunette with a very nice ass and a face that looks stunningly beautiful from a distance, teased both Steve and Erik from the staircase as she warmed herself up in the final scene. While I prefer seeing fishnet lingerie, her bikini was pretty good too and it matched her talents a lot. In terms of enthusiasm, she was probably the best of the women here and her overall sexual skill was a match for the others as well. I didn't sense as much chemistry as I'd have preferred but this gal earned every penny she made the day this scene was shot. The sex was as varied as her abilities and the various DPs she took from them should be more than enough to satisfy the most perverse fan of gonzo.

Summary: Sperm Smiles 1 was a lot of fun to watch, even when the individual performers weren't my type. Whether that's a sign of great direction, great choice in performers, or just luck of the draw; I can't really say. I do know that it merited a rating of Recommended on the sexual skill and talents of the decent cast and the production values, as well as the solid extras. For a novice director, that's a very high rating and I hope to see more of her work in the future to see how she fares. Perhaps keeping in such good company will enable her to improve her skills although I'd hate to see her become another anonymous director at a gonzo porn company. Maybe we'll even get to see her working again in solo scenes made strictly for her own titles or working with other HIV+ performers to prove to the world that she still has what it takes to get guys off too. Lastly, I did have a few reservations about reviewing the title based on the circumstances surrounding her past with the scenes employing no condoms here but if she can deal with it, so can I (I just wanted to keep the record straight).
