The Movie:

This 1976 directorial effort from Armand Weston has the kind of cast that fans of old porno get huge boners over! C.J. Laing? Annie Sprinkle? Marc Stevens? Terri Hall? All great performers of legendary status in the industry and for good reason. The film follows Manny (Stevens) a strange cult leader who seems to acquire willing and wanton women with ease thanks to his monster sized dong and hypnotic abilities. To help feed his insatiable sexual appetite he employs an assistant named Charley (Bobby Astyr, misspelled on the packaging as 'Booby'!) who spends his time looking for new recruits. When a newlywed girl played by C.J. Laing starts experiencing problems at home, she finds herself the newest inductee into Manny's cult, but C.J.'s husband is none to keen on the idea and he sets out to get her back.

Scene One – Terri Hall, And Two Unidentified Men: This one is shot without a lot of light to give it a mysterious look so it's pretty much impossible to tell who the two guys are that Terri is fucking in this scene, but in the context of the story it all works. The action starts and ends fairly quickly as Terri lies down on her back and blows one of the guys, while the other fucks her, and then proceeds to take their cum on her face. The end.

Scene Two – Eric Edwards And Crystal Sync: Eric starts by rubbing her down, and then he busts out a hand held vibrator to get her warmed up. The DVD

Video:

This fullframe transfer looks surprisingly sharp and colorful and the picture quality, for an old XXX film from 1979, looks surprisingly good especially when you consider that this, judging from the tracking lines at the bottom of the picture, was taken from a VHS source. There are some specks here and there as well as a moderate amount of grain but this looks to be a film sourced transfer and not a VHS or tape source. The unfortunate decision to add a 'Video X Pix' bug in the bottom right hand corner of the image during a few key scenes is also a strike against the disc, as it is a little annoying when it continues to pop up, but other than that, the black levels stay strong, the skin tones look natural, and while there are a few scenes that look a bit on the soft side, overall this is a nice picture.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack is a little muffled and not of the best quality, but again, it's taken from a tape source so the limitations of the older technology are going to be there when that's the case. Dialogue is pretty easy to understand, however, and the background music comes through reasonably clear. There aren't a lot of sound effects used in the film, mostly just some random moaning and groaning during the action scenes and these are handled just fine, as are the talkier bits of the movie.

Extras:

Again, two trailers (Slit Skirts and Honeymoon Haven) that we've seen before and that same picture gallery of vintage performers from other movies is all we find here, aside from the typical menus and chapter stops.

Final Thoughts:

An excellent XXX classic, Ecstasy In Blue manages to be creepy, funny and sexy all at the same time. A fantastic cast, some hot sex, and a really bizarre storyline make this one very much a worthwhile endeavor for the aficionado of vintage filth despite the lackluster presentation it's received on DVD. Highly recommended.
