Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color, as originally shot. This was a minimal shoot in a dark room so you really can't expect too much but to be fair, it didn't look bad. I've seen efforts by much bigger companies look far worse so I'll give Twisted credit where due. The audio was presented in some form of stereo but I didn't hear any separation between channels. Upon closer inspection, I saw my DVD player read the audio as PCM (pulse code modulation) rather than the more standard Dolby Digital. Generally, you could hear Julie quite well and no background noise.

Body of Review: If you've ever watched one of those virtual sex simulators, you'd know that they amount to a game where you control the sexual activity of a particular porn star. These DVD's are quite popular and My Plaything Jenna 2 recently won the DVD Talk Best of 2003 award. This is no small feat considering that there were reportedly between ten and twelve thousand porn releases last year. A close second was Virtual Sex With Jesse Jane and judging by recent sales reports, it too is in great demand. As the technology advances to the point where smaller companies can afford to simulate such releases, you can expect them to take advantage of the genre since it is fairly cheap to make (usually just needing one performer) and even older titles like My Plaything Jenna 1 prove they have a long shelf life (translation: they rake in dough for years). This said, I saw a release recently by a smaller company that I'd never heard of, Twisted Transmissions, called, Digital Submissive. In it, you control a submissive gal, Julie Robbins, through several well-known forms of S&M style play. If you're not into this type of thing, read no further but it was certainly an interesting change of pace for me. Here's a breakdown of the actions you can take with this one:

Beat Me:

Flogger or Crop: You get a choice of weapon, either a medium sized flogger (a whip with a bunch of straps attached to it) or a crop (like the kind jockeys use in horse racing. With each choice, you can pick the body part you're going to smack, either Tits, Ass, or Pussy, and the action lasts from a minute and a half or so to just under three minutes. The hits were not hard, just enough to qualify as love taps, but I suspect people that are into the life style will appreciate the idea.

Spank Me:

You get to pick between spanking Julie with a gloved hand or a paddle. When the choice started off, Julie's rump was already a bit red but the hits here were not particularly hard either. The paddle was leather on one side and some form of white fluffy animal skin on the other. These two choices lasted under two minutes each as well.

Torture Me:

With your slave Julie all tied up and having a ball gag in her mouth, the next step you'll get to pick from is the torture step. You can use candle wax, dripping from a burning red candle, leaving trails all across her implants for about two minutes, give her a series of clothespins to her ample breasts for a bit over four minutes, rub alcohol on her back and set it afire for about three minutes (the flames were wiped off quickly, leaving no marks), or you could use a feather and tickle her for about 90 seconds.

Your Rewards:

There were more rewards than anything else. They included:

Foot Play: This section was divided into a four minute section where she washed her feet, a three and a half minute session of her sucking her own toes, or a couple minutes of her using her feet to jerk off a dildo.

Food Play: While sitting in a small wading pool, various foodstuffs are poured onto Julie, now wearing a short, tight, red dress. Chocolate syrup, milk, marshmallows, cherries, and other food were dumped on her and she rubbed all in for about eight minutes.

Pony Girl: There were a couple of minutes with Julie in black leather, all trussed up in ropes wear she acted like a horse. She didn't have a tail and her naying was weak but if you like this kind of thing, go for it.

Smoking: Julie lit up a cigarette and puffed away for about three minutes. You could see her breasts but her legs were crossed.

Dildo Play: You got to pick between Julie sucking it for a couple of minutes, barely taking it into her mouth, or you could nearly three minutes of the master masturbating her with it.

Masturbate: Julie rubs herself for four minutes while talking dirty. She did finger herself a bit but not a lot.

This particular virtual sex simulator suffered many flaws, some of which were unique to it. Rather than play an endless loop, the current standard in this type of DVD, this one goes back to its list of choices. Further, you cannot change the attitude of Julie, nor can you make her do all that much. On the other hand, the choices here were definitely more unique than any other virtual sex simulator on the market today. Most of those are made by Digital Sin or Digital Playground and contain cookie cutter choices (to a point). If you're looking for something darker, you won't find it anywhere else. There is also a Master version of the DVD where you take the slave's point of view (different strokes for different folks) for those of you who want to explore the possibilities. Julie is attractive enough and seemed to act appropriately enough (I'm not expert and while some aspects of her behavior appeared to be topping from the bottom, it was close enough for a first attempt).

Summary: I'm going to rate this as a Rent It for those of you looking for something off the beaten track but if you're into S&M, you'll want to pick it up as a higher rated DVD. It's a bit crude but fun nonetheless.
