Synopsis

River Rock Women's Prison is an all-girl feature that traces the experiences of two new inmates (Dia Zerva and Justine Joli) as they become acclimated to life in a dingy, filthy, and disgusting for-profit prison. As the plot unfolds, a work detail uncovers an old mine shaft that they enlarge and reinforce to use as an escape route. Although the inmates work on the shaft directly under the noses of the hapless guards (played to a tee by Adrianna Nicole and Jada Fire), Warden Claire Adams soon hears about the plot. So, she unloosens the wrath of guard Jada Fire on the girls and soon discovers that inmate Syd Blakovich is the one who discovered the shaft and is in charge of the escape plan. Jada then fucks the shit out of Syd (literally) and extracts a contrived confession in which Syd implicates the new lifer, Dia Zerva. Eventually, two of the inmates, Syd Blakovich and Dia Zerva, do manage to escape. But, guards Adrianna Nicole and Jada Fire send out the dogs to find the escapees. The movie ends before we know the outcome. So, it sets the stage for a squeal which, if it is released, should also let us know what happens to sweet and delectable Justine Joli.

River Rock Women's Prison was directed by Kathryn Annelle and was "created by a woman for women" (per the box cover). I'm a guy, (although I'm quite sure that I would be a lesbian had I been born with two X chromosomes!), and I loved this movie. Not only does it have hotter-than-blazes girl/girl sex (which I adore), but it is also a compelling story that is well told through mainstream-quality vignettes that explore the personalities of the inmates as well as the hellhole they call home.

River Rock Women's Prison is not a pretty film. It is gritty and very realistic. Great pains were taken by the director to promote realism...from the casting of both younger and older stars, to the depressing and filthy location/sets, to the uniforms, to the stark lighting, and to the lack of makeup. It is a good film that features great lesbian sex. That's a potent combination.

Speaking of sex, Scene Two, featuring Melissa Monet and Justine Joli has got to be one of the best girl/girl scenes I have ever witnessed. If you love lesbian sex, you definitely want to see these two women tear each other apart--and take each other to heaven and back--using only their hands, fingers, and tongues. • Some of the lighting is inadequate...some of the action is hidden in shadows.
• There are too many oblique camera angles that make it appear that the performers are going to slide off the screen.

Extras

River Rock Women's Prison comes in a two-DVD set. Disc One, a DVD-9 disc, contains the feature movie, a full-motion chapter selector, and multiple chapters per scene. Disc Two (DVD-5) contains a 12-minute behind-the-scene (BTS) s featurette dubbed "Behind the Rock;" a two minute "Fresh Fish" featurette in which Melissa Monet introduces us to--and makes out with--her new "fish," Justine Joli (I think this footage was "clipped" and included in mini-vignettes throughout the movie); two self-running slide shows (the first, 2.5 minutes in length, features mostly-dressed shots of the cast members; the second, also 2.5 minutes long, features partially-clad and nude shots of the girls); a 3.5 minute tour of the derelict River Rock prison location used during the filming of the movie; and trailers for eight other Triangle Films releases. The BTS offers a behind-the-camera look at the filming of the movie; footage of the girls introducing themselves; video of the cast goofing off between shots; impromptu interviews of the cast members; bloopers/outtakes; video of the girls' makeup and wardrobe; and video of the photoshoots. Although a separate DVD is devoted to the extras, they are really not all that extensive. They are, however, nicely done. The BTS, in particular, is quite a bit better than those that accompany most adult titles. Average...three stars.

Final Thoughts

The best things about River Rock Women's Prison include:

• the cast. Each cast member is superbly appropriate to her role--and plays it well. Of particular note are the acting (and sexual) performances of warden Claire Adams, guards Jada Fire and Adrianna Nicole, "madam" Melissa Monet, and naive inmate Justine Joli.
• Scene Two. Destined, in my opinion, to be the girl/girl scene of 2010, this scene explodes with real female lust provided by Melissa Monet and Justine Joli.
• the bondage imagery in Scene Five. Wow! It's intense!
• the storyline and its unique development throughout the movie.
• the musical soundtrack. It superbly supports the on-screen imagery.
• the editing. The short plot-developing vignettes are really very effective.

River Rock Women's Prison could have been better if:

• the lighting had been better. The stark lighting, while appropriate to the movie's plot and location, occasionally leaves the action hidden in shadows.
• the videographer had avoided the trite "porn-only" habit of angling the camera this way and that during the filming of the movie. This technique, seldom seen in mainstream, causes it to appear as if the performers are going to slide off the screen. I wish that adult videographers would get over this past-its-usefulness technique.
• a bit more anal sex had been employed. It seems to me, in particular, that Melissa and Justine should have at least finger-fucked each other's assholes.
