Trading on both her fame and her name, the suits over at MC Productions have decided that Marilyn Chambers needs a line of instructional videos. Covering such subjects as oral and anal sex, as well as masturbation, these educational efforts are designed to both titillate and teach, offering up sound, sensible advice along with appropriate hardcore product to illustrate each point. In the case of this simplistic release, Ms. Chambers is out to dispel several myths surrounding the self-gratification side of human happenstance. With the help of three XXX teacher's aides - Cindy Crawford, Savannah Stern, Lindsay Meadows - and various lubes and vibrators, she wants to argue for the natural fun and safe side of playing with yourself. Guys need not apply however. This is a DVD directed toward the female market almost exclusively. Unless you like to see gals going solo with their hands and their favorite toys, there will be little of value for the he-man hardcore voyeur.

But if you're a novice at beating your own bush (so to speak) you'll really enjoy this beginner's level of lewdness. Marilyn is a fine hostess, mocking certain stereotypical misconceptions (you'll go crazy, you'll go blind) while running through the standard trio of tricks - clitoral, internal and anal stimulation. She also mentions the G-Spot, though the film seems to leave that issue for a much later discussion. All we get when the time comes to talk about it is a high school level biology class illustration. Interested in squirting? That materials not here either. Indeed, all the Marilyn Chambers' Guide to Masturbation hopes to accomplish is a one on one intimacy between you and the basics of manual stimulation. Any other facet of self-fucking - food, experimentation, pain, piercings, etc. - is absent - or perhaps part of a different DVD. The most aggressive we get here is a sequence where one of our gals goes gonzo with a double headed dildo.

As for our star, she does nothing more than talk. At her age, Ms. Chambers is not about to disrobe for a session of individual diddling. No, she leaves that up to her tempting trio, and all of our gals do a great job of illustrating the points proffered. Each one takes on a different dynamic - Cindy does clitoral, Savannah demonstrates internal, while Lindsay does both entries. All three lay on the lube, and each one ends up working with a wide variety of toys and electronics. Again, it's hard to see a real audience outside the intended demographic. This disc is only 51 minutes in length, and most of it is Marilyn talking or the ladies preparing for their parts. The masturbation scenes are more instructional than erotic, the camera sitting by stoically as fingers find folds and butt plugs fulfill their purpose. Straightforward without being silly, and enlightening without being dry, Marilyn Chambers' Guide to Masturbation is more for first-timers than seasoned self-lovers. It's got the basics down pat. Too bad it couldn't broach the braver elements of the artform.

While definitely not for the more experience members of the personal porking paradigm, there is definitely a market for simple, no nonsense instructional titles like this one. Ms. Chambers' open, honest personality definitely comes through, and the various illustrations that complement the considerations will be a godsend for those who enjoy a more 'hands on' approach. Easily earning a rating of Recommended, it would be interesting to see how the rest of the titles in this series play out. Since the object is to inform, guides to oral and anal sex would be very interesting indeed. While gals may be a tad uncomfortable learning the fine art of dildo management in front of their man, there is nothing to be ashamed of here. The title easily deserves a Cohabitation Certification. In the vast realm of the adult industry, there are many so-called guides to certain sexual components. Marilyn Chambers' Guide to Masturbation is easily one of the best.
