The Movie:

Antonoi Sheppard's 1978 Chorus Call starts off with a great shot of the Manhattan skyline from the air before placing us in a bedroom where a girl plays with her pussy. Cut to a casting call office where Bobby Astyr is letting Clea Carson suck his cock under the pretense that she might just get a part in whatever production it is that he's casting. We then see R. Bolla letting a few actresses in leotards audition inside a beat up old auditorium that has certainly seen better days. A girl comes up to Bolla and strokes his cock before going down on him as he rests in the theater seating. Meanwhile, Joey Silvera is somehow trying to teach a group of women to dance. As Silvera dances, Astyr starts to get rough with the girl, groping her and fucking her from a few different angels. She grins and takes it with a smile on her face while Bolla's still getting his cock sucked. The film cuts back and forth between the three different 'sub-plots' until Bolla gets interrupted by a guy who needs to talk to him. Astyr keeps fucking Carson, however, missionary style until he pops on her pelvis.

Bolla heads off with his co-worker for a fancy lunch and they talk business for a bit. Sivlera and the dancing girls are still working on their production and generally not a whole lot is happening for a few minutes here... then, after a bunch of dull audition footage, Bethanne and Susaye London retire to a practice room where they disrobe and play with one another's tits. The mirrored walls are a nice touch as the girls eventually graduate from sucking tits to sucking snatch and go down on one another until they're both well taken care of. They're pretty into it and both are all natural and quite attractive making this an above average scene and helping to compensate for the severe lack of action so far in the film.

After that great girl on girl scene, however, it's back to the theater where more people prance around and pretend to be practicing for a big show that, quite honestly, nobody gives a shit about. A plump blonde with the kind of nice big tits that'd keep you warm on a cold winter's eve does a strip tease and tehn Susaye, fresh from her encounter with Bethanne moments earlier, decides to approach Silvera and after a brief confrontation she gives him head. While this is going on, Bobby Hollander is understandably macking on the foxy Kay Parker. He feeds her a few drinks and before you can say 'mommy complex' he's rubbing her legs. They head to the bedroom with a bottle of booze and soon he's munching her box and fingering her hole. In the next room, R. Bolla is following suit and going down on pretty blonde Darby Llloyd Rains. The two scenes intertwine but basically Hollander sucks Parkers tits and then fucks her missionary style while Bolla and Rains move into a hair sixty-nine and she plays with his balls. Cut to a nice shot outside the Rockefeller Center and some great footage of the fancy rich fuck shops on 5th Ave., before splicing in clips of the various actors hanging out in Manhattan - some eat hot dogs, some take a carriage ride through Central Park, others walk around but apparently life is good for all involved.

After a bit of goofy plot exposition, Kay Parker teams up with Bathanna to give lucky Joey Silvera a good time. It all starts with the two ladies enjoying some alone time in the dressing room. They make out and eat each other out until Silvera walks in and lends a helping... tongue. He eats one out then the next and the girls give him head. Parker titty fucks him (lucky bastard, those are LEGENDARY jugs) then the two girls take turns sucking him, sitting on his face and riding him. Good stuff!

As the opening date of whatever production it is that everyone is working on approaches, tension levels are high. Monica Devon decides to unwind a bit with some help from Pepe. As they finish, the show starts and all of their efforts are rewarded.

This feature was shot on film and is presented on this DVD fullframe. For a movie that's roughly twenty-five years old, Chorus Call doesn't look terrible here though much the lighting for the scenes in the film that take place in the theater are pretty poor and as such, it's a little on the dark side. The colors are a little faded and there's some aliasing in some scenes and there are minor problems with the contrast but the picture is clean and clear and stable for the most part. It's far from reference quality but for an older production, it's perfectly watchable though it does appear to have been taken from a tape source...

Sound:

The Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack is a little muffled and not of the best quality, but again, it's taken from an older source so the limitations of the era's technology are going to be there when that's the case - you'll notice a lot of wind and background noise anytime the movie heads outside. Dialogue is pretty easy to understand, however, and the background music comes through reasonably clear. There aren't a lot of sound effects used in the film, mostly just some random moaning and groaning added in post-production over top of the action scenes and these are handled just fine, as are the talkier bits of the movie.

Extras:

In the extras section you'll find a couple of web links and some phone sex ads - that's it! There is a static menu screen but no chapter selection option.

Final Thoughts:

The plot is a little too intrusive at times and some of the sex scenes are more than just a little bit disjointed but there's a fair bit of fun camp appeal here and the film does make good use of its interesting cast. Everyone who does show up here has made better films before and after but it's fun to see them all pop up in the same picture. VCA's release, however, has fairly unimpressive video quality and is pretty much barebones, making this about on par with a VHS release. It's worth seeing, but it's a shame that the studio can't be bothered to treat their older catalogue titles right. Rent it.
