It's interesting that VCA chose to put Chloe on the box cover of this title instead of Shyla Stylez. Not only does Shyla have three scenes in this title (Chloe also has three, for the record), but she's one of the more popular talents in porn right now, and a box cover featuring her may have very well helped move more copies than Chloe - simply because Chloe has had more than her fair share of box covers from VCA, but Shyla has yet to have one for that company.

So it was probably more a matter of loyalty than profit that resulted in VCA's decision, and that decision may hurt the overall success of Enigma. However, more likely to hurt its success is the fact that the movie just isn't that entertaining. We begin the movie thinking we're going to see a somewhat scary weekend at a secluded cabin in the woods...but the characters get there and not much happens.

The movie opens with Chloe talking to Steve Hatcher, who has come up with an idea about using a cabin in the woods (which is owned by his uncle or father - I can't remember which) as a place to host one of those interactive dinner parties. Chloe isn't thrilled with the idea, but agrees to help (she's a writer, and Steve wants her to work on the overall premise for the party).

When Chloe, Steve and Eric Masterson (one of Steve's friends) make their way to the cabin, they are continually spooked and harassed by Marty Romano - whose character seems like a serial killer at first, but eventually just turns out to be someone who wants to kick them off the property - which is equally strange, since Marty doesn't own the property.

Where Shyla figures into the plot is during the first evening, when she appears in front of Chloe and the two wind up having a lesbian encounter with each other. After the two have sex, Shyla mysteriously vanishes - something that doesn't make any sense in the overall plot, since we find out at the end of the movie that she isn't a ghost or spirit...just Marty's girlfriend.

While the plot stumbles, fans of Shyla and Chloe may want to check this one out solely for the sexual action, which is average, but nothing spectacular. In addition to the scene that Chloe and Shyla share together, Chloe has a scene with Cheyne Collins early in the film and a movie-ending coupling with Steve. Shyla has a threesome with Steve and Eric at the mid-way point of the picture, and the next to last scene in the film with Marty. There's also an opening scene with Keri Windsor and Steve Hatcher.

Sometimes VCA does really well on their bonus materials and sometimes they totally fail to provide anything of interest. Sadly, Enigma marks one of the latter efforts by the company. The only bonus material you'll find on this disc is a chapter selection, slide show, cast listing and three trailers for other VCA titles. You'll also find some company information and the ability to watch a "wall to wall" version of the movie - which means you can skip over the silly plot and just watch the sex.

Like many adult features being made these days (and many mainstream movies too, I might add), Enigma begins with an interesting premise - then totally fails to follow through on that premise, choosing instead to go the lazy (and no doubt cheaper) route with its story. The only "Enigma" here is why VCA approved this movie to be filmed in the first place.
