Extras: The extras were on the light side with five trailers in high definition, a slide show, some spam, limited text biographies for the women, and a 3:34 minute long Behind the Scenes feature in standard definition. The BTS showed how the gals had fun but were pushed further than they cared to go. Whether this was simply more acting or real life was unclear but it will give viewers some food for thought either way.

Audio/Video Quality: Tough Love 11 (Blu-Ray) was presented in 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color as shot by director Jim Powers for JM Productions and released in high definition using the VC-1 codec in a crisp 1080i showing. I haven't seen a Blu-Ray JM Productions release yet so I was pleasantly surprised that this one had such solid lighting, leading to low grain, video noise, moiré, and other issues directly related to this aspect of production. The fleshtones were accurate and the ladies were shown very clearly, probably the reason why this back catalog title was selection for the high definition upgrade (though JM titles often have very solid technical elements, they usually strike me as being shot quickly and cheaply). The bitrate hovered around the mid 18 Mbps range when I spot checked it too, the resolution and detail of the visuals nicely complimenting the camerawork that did not spend too much time on extreme close up shots. While I haven't seen the original version that came out last year in standard definition, I could see the pores on the faces of the cast, the texture of the ceiling, make out individual titles on the walls of the office and a lot more proof that the resolution was significantly enhanced. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and the usual 192 Kbps audio bitrate. There wasn't any noticed separation but the vocals were clearly heard and on par with most other gonzo releases I've heard in the past year.

Body of Review: Jim Powers is one of those directors in porn that caters to his own muse, his very best work being from JM Productions where he isn't micromanaged to death as he is when working elsewhere. If you look up hardcore porn in any reputable encyclopedia, expect to see Jim's picture there as he hovers over some poor lass that was just put through her paces. That makes it all the more fitting that my first high definition release from the company should be one of his titles, in the form of Tough Love 11 (Blu-Ray). Okay, if you know anything at all about Jim and JM, you'll know you can forget about artsy-fartsy special effects, "erotic posing", and all the malarkey jammed into titles elsewhere under the guise of couples porn since they make porn for men to jerk off. While sometimes considered misogynistic or anti-female, this is the raw kind of smut that a whole lot of guys love to watch in an unapologetic fashion so seeing them join the high definition wave should prove most interesting to say the least. Given the title and pictures on the back cover, I expected Jim to push the limits of the willing cast, showing gals that get off on abuse as much as their fans. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Chelsie Rae, a very cute blond that signed for JM Productions earlier this year at the AEE (and had a lot of nice things to say about them), was up first as she argued with suitcase pimp Alex Sanders in the bedroom about doing a bukkake scene with 75 guys. Summary: Tough Love 11 (Blu-Ray) by director Jim Powers for JM Productions lacked finesse and was about as subtle as a truck smashing into a wall but I couldn't deny the heat of the situations, especially knowing that the ladies were pushed up to their limits willingly, not past them. The dynamic of the day was abuse porn and the ladies were all paid extra to play their roles, the energy surpassing the enthusiasm in a way that those of you into this kind of thing will be busting off your own loads for a long time to come (given the crystal clarity of the picture, it was all the more lifelike) so I rated it as Recommended. Granted, I'm not generally predisposed to liking this type of release but Jim Powers has a way of getting the best out of his cast for those that like hardcore smut, making this one of the few raw, edgy, and realistic offerings in Blu-Ray at this time. In short, Tough Love 11 (Blu-Ray) will not be for everyone but it will satisfy those of you wanting something extra decadent while you wait for more niches to be filled with high definition releases.
