The Movie:

In this, one of countless old school XXX detective movie spoofs, Marc Wallice plays a private dick named Nick Slick who just happens to stumble his way into a case where Rachel Ashley hires him to spy on her husband (played by Mike Horner). She thinks that he's up to something, cheating on her maybe, and she doesn't mind paying with her money or her body to get to the truth about his high jinks.

Super star John Leslie directs this one with a minimum of flair. The story is pretty pedestrian and unfortunately so is the bulk of the sex with a few exceptions that we'll cover in just a bit. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's predictable and repetitive with only one lesbian scene thrown in to break things up a little bit. The main thing that the movie has going for it is a very solid cast of late eighties hotties (Selena Steele looks especially good in this feature) so fans who grew up watching and wanking to the pornography of this era should get a kick or two out of spotting a few of the harder working ladies of the day in action throughout the movie.

Scene 1 – Sasha And Jamie Gillis: Things start to get hot and heavy inside the condo when Gillis moves up behind Sasha while she's at the washing machine doing laundry. This bad boy was shot on video it looks like but at least it's well lit and the colors look pretty darn good considering that it was made about seventeen years ago. Flesh tones look natural and there's no shortage of detail in the image when compared to other shot on video smut of the same era. There is some softness to the image but no more so than any other adult movies of its ilk. The image is free of print damage and has only very mild edge enhancement noticeable in a few scenes though some mpeg compression artifacts poke around in the black spots from time to time.

Sound:

The plain vanilla Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono sound mix is clean and clear even when it does show the limitations of the source material used for the disc. Some of the scenes are just a little flat and don't sound too robust but at the very least you can hear everything that's being said and this mix gets done what it needs to get done without any really big problems. The funky dance music score sounds incredibly dated but it ads to the fun of the feature and obviously isn't a fault of the disc so much as it is simply bad taste.

Extras:

Extras are limited to an advertisement trailers for three other VCA Classics titles (New Wave Hookers 5, Shock and The Devil In Miss Jones 6, a photo gallery consisting of roughly forty images from the film, a phone sex advertisement, an internet link and a contact page for VCA.

Final Thoughts:

VCA has given Slick Honey a nice looking and sounding presentation with nothing to write home about in terms of extras. The movie isn't bad, but it's not one with a lot of replay value. Worth checking out for some interesting casting, this one is best served with a rental for all but the most hardcore of late eighties porno fans.
