Audio/Video Quality: Carter Cruise: Wide Open was presented in anamorphic widescreen by director Manuel Ferrara (and writer Kayden) for Evil Angel. The flesh tones were accurate, the framing of some scenes a bit off, but the overall feel of the visuals somewhat different from Manuel’s usual gonzo releases. The audio was offered up in 2.0 Dolby Digital English but there was no separation noticed that I could figure out, and the dynamic range was pretty limited too; the scenes coming from quickly shot gonzo; the guerilla shooting style favored by pornographers everywhere.

Body of Review: Manuel Ferrara is one of the most sought after performers in the industry, his directorial efforts at places like Evil Angel not always showing him at his best. In his release of what is billed as a feature-lite called Carter Cruise: Wide Open, Manuel and his wife Kayden present popular blond hotty Carter Cruise in a minimalist story where the gal seeks out a variety of sexual stimulation, her reasoning left unclear courtesy of the feature elements. Still, knowing ahead of time that Carter would be in all four scenes was certainly a selling point to this fan, having seen dozens of her best scenes to date, even Carter at her worst would be pretty solid, yes? There was a blow bang, a lesbian tryst with Kayden, a heated anal fuck with Manuel, and the show closes out with a DP so there was definitely some strokable action taking place, better spotlight showcases for the young lady perhaps in the offing somewhere but this one well worth checking out too.

Manuel’s attempts in directing features have largely fallen flat for me of late, especially when he has been “helped”, less because of the sex than the story aspects, Carter’s range as an actress certainly not at issue given her past successes. That said, She gave good performances in her scenes, really shining with Manuel most of all, and this is certainly a “must have” for her legion of fans even if they consider the modest story portions to be “fast forward fodder”. In short, Carter Cruise: Wide Open is best considered to be a spotlight showcase for the attractive young star, her physical appeal and ability to work with just about anyone making her well worth your time so check it out and let me know how well you think she did.
