Audio/Video Quality: Tianna Is Buttwoman was presented in the original 1.33:1 ratio full frame color it was shot in by director Bruce Seven, now released by Evil Angel though it was originally released by Elegant Angel (the unchanged credits reflect this). It had Michael Cates and Tianna on camera, Bruce editing, and comes across as an early John Stagliano effort (Bruce was his mentor) more than one of Bruce’s typical lesbian flicks. As Tianna travels around in search of hot chick ass to play with, she captures a fair amount of footage and often participates, the grain and other visual elements a far cry from contemporary standards but still full of the same degree of heated lesbian trysts, a tribute to the effort that went into the action and scripting (by John) that became the industry standard so long ago (and continues today). The video bitrate varied but appeared to hover around the 5.8 Mbps area when spot checked, the resolution and clarity not up to today’s standards but still easy on the eyes. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English using a 48 kHz sampling rate and 192 Kbps audio bitrate. The aural qualities were noticeably weaker than the visual but the music by Richard Smiles was as cheesy as ever and the vocals were distinctive enough for such an oldie.

Body of Review: Bruce Seven was infamous for his love of lesbian anal fare back in the day, his mentoring of John “Buttman” Stagliano spawning a whole new brand of “gonzo” sex flicks so imitated by others that you can literally trace their evolution to these roots. Now released by Evil Angel, Tianna Is Buttwoman (originally “The Adventures of Buttwoman” when it came out under the Elegant Angel banner two decades ago), the resulting movie was definitely a sign of the times. Tianna, camera in hand, would prowl the countryside looking for women to have sex with, each scene clearly scripted but giving off a vibe that John ran with (as did others) as audiences cheered for the strokable trysts that would ensue. As limited as the technical values are compared to some of John’s more recent efforts, it was good to see this popular title back in print under a label that would add in some extras and revive the classics, perhaps more of them on the way should this one succeed. Five scenes in two hours was considered quite a value back when this came out, because so many tapes were shorter than that, the eventual rise of DVD spoiled many of us.

Shorthaired, perky blonde Tianna portrays Buttwoman, a charmingly funny pervert who stalks Malibu, California with her bulky, state-of-the-art video camcorder documenting and participating in sensuous lesbian encounters among the hottest porn chicks of the era. Gorgeous, hardbodied jogger Trixie Tyler gets chased by Buttwoman, who is seduced by the sultry redhead for an indoor anal workout. Fans of 1980s style can revisit the cheesy-yet-erotic clothing, neon pastels and voluminous hair so trendy at the time. The lovely women are among the most alluring specimens from any decade. Scene One: Tianna, walking around with a videocamera in her hands and a sun dress on, spotted redhead Trixie Tyler out jogging, a few compliments later shooting some tease footage of her in the living room. This was the scene featured on the front cover of this current release (on the center), some water footage enhancing the look of the gals as they verbally teased each other. The trio moved into the house and deployed a bunch of toys to the throwback score (by Richard Smiles), more grain due to lighting than some of the other scenes. The fingering and anal toy use had an almost frantic feel to it, the gals needing to get off with each other and showing some affection with later kisses.

Scene Four: Bionca, Summer Knight, and Tianna, were up next when our lead was caught peeping on a fetish photo shoot involving a dungeon. The wide array of devices on the wall signified the type of kink potential the director would later use, Tianna getting caught by her two new friends ending in her being strung up by her ankles. Bionca and Summer teased her with their shapely asses, all three of them participating in the lesbian eating and toy use. There was face sitting and fingering, moans galore, and tons of energy but it ended too soon for my tastes.

Scene Five: Heather Lere, K.C. Williams, Missy Warner, and Tianna, were up last as the lead took on her trio of friends in an office (not jumping in on the sex so much). The office tryst began when the ladies became overly excited reading Penthouse and such, rubbing one out at their desks until the heat generated was too much to bear alone. They began eating at the Y and pulling out penetrative vibrators to fuck themselves with, Tianna encouraging them to line up on the desk for the delightful visual as she spanked their rounded rumps and gave some licking to them.

Summary: Tianna Is Buttwoman by director Bruce Seven, now released by Evil Angel had no population pudding or genetic juice given the lack of male mopes tapping the sweetness of the female cast but the energy and enthusiasm was clearly evident, even if some of the cheese of the late 80’s and early 90’s remained. I was always more familiar with Bruce’s “Buttslammers” line and some of the more straightforward titles he released but this was a fine tribute to the 20 year anniversary of the original Elegant Angel release, hopefully more will follow. Tianna liked the ladies and was into the then-less common anal sex tricks, admittedly a far cry from the circus acts so popularized by guys like Jay Sin or Mike Adriano, but no less strokable given the degree of chemistry the cast had for one another in some cases so I rated it as a Recommended or better depending on your tolerance for classic lesbian porn. In short, Tianna Is Buttwoman was not as technically crisp as current company efforts but in terms of passion, enthusiasm, and heated lesbian fun, it sure beats a lot of what is still made by competitors trying to catch up twenty years later. John’s role in the production was not really advertised very well back when this came out originally but frankly, anyone following his work over the years will see his touches at every turn, the trysts no less powerful as spank bank fodder even now.
