Audio/Video Quality: Sweetness and Light was presented in a crisp, anamorphic widescreen as shot by director B. Skow for Girlfriends Films under their Skow Digital line. Skow, Mike Towers, and PP Peru worked the cameras and the editing by Gabrielle Anex was good in most cases. The visual elements looked good and worked nicely with the aural components, the lack of a company watermark and accurate flesh tones helped by solid lighting throughout the show. The stereo aural aspects of the movie were nicely done, the vocals easily understood, the uncredited mood music impacting the quality of production in a good way.

Body of Review: B. Skow is the most skilled director at Girlfriends Films, his talents developed over many years for Vivid. His latest flick is called Sweetness and Light, a drama near and dear to the hearts of many as it deals with a couple that get along best when they are fighting, each partner’s best friends hating the choices made to the point of sabotage. With attractive ladies such as Brooklyn Chase, Karla Kush, Alektra Blue, Siri, and Belle Noir, there was some serious potential for replay value given Skow’s successes in recent years. The back cover described the movie like this: “Dan and Rachel are a couple who like to fight. In fact, they love it. It's how they vent, how they communicate, it's even their foreplay. It's how they get off. But, after saying the one word you cannot say to a woman, Dan gets the boot and finds himself kicked out his house and living with Pat and Erin, his brother and sister-in-law, who are only too excited to help set him up with someone new as soon as possible, rather than allow him to return to Rachel, who they hate. Meanwhile, Rachel takes the advice of her best friends, Lydia and Simone, who hate Dan with as much fervor as Pat and Erin hate Rachel. They too decide that anything is better than letting Rachel get back together with Dan, so they go about setting her up on a blind date to get her back in the dating scene as soon as humanly possible. But the heart wants what it wants and in the end, even though Dan and Rachel are terrible to each other, it might just be their awfulness that makes them so right for each other.”

The press release then said: “The next installment in director B. Skow’s collection of greatness has hit the streets with the release of Sweetness and Light (Skow for Girlfriends). This movie fits in with his not-so-ordinary edgy couples’ movies like What Do You Want Me To Say?, Voila, and Paint, all of which have all done extremely well with critics and have received many awards nominations. The movie stars Brooklyn Chase, Siri, Alektra Blue, Karla Kush, Belle Noir, Alan Stafford, Seth Gamble and Evan Stone—all names well known for their acting abilities as well as strong sex scenes. “I think Brooklyn is one of the best all around female performers and her beauty and natural acting abilities really draw you into the story and the sex,” Skow says. “Siri and Belle are sexy and funny. I love working with both of these girls because they both are able to get into any crazy characters and truly love lesbian sex.” He says Karla has become one of his go-to girls for wild character parts and he is amazed how she understands what he’s trying to get out of her every time. “She looks so sweet and fucks like an animal in this movie,” he says. Alektra and Stone provide the movie’s comic relief and, Skow says, “stand out as the weirdest family members you’ll ever meet.” “I think this movie is so, so relatable to every single person who has ever lived together or had a couples argument,” he says. The concept for the movie came from an article he read about how many doctors and psychologists agree that fighting can be healthy. The professionals suggest that it’s not how you fight, it’s how you make up. In Sweetness and Light, making up provides some sexy results.” Here’s a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Brooklyn Chase was well cast as the lead and all the ladies had some stroke potential in their respective scenes, the replay value more modest than some of Skow’s pure gonzo outings but well worth numerous viewings all the same. In short, Sweetness and Light was a story most can identify with, the internal edginess of the themes certainly in line with the modern realities of friends and relationships sometimes at odds with each other so check it out.
