THE SEX

I've always been a fan of the Shane's World-type of videos, basically those where porn performers go out into the "real world" and have sex for the cameras. But in the last few years, most porn shot in this style has become rather lame – with either the "real life" situations being set-up, or the locations being so mundane (usually a hotel room or dorm room) that the sex isn't just that exciting to watch.

But the new Adventure Sex series from Hustler takes this "road trip" style of porn to the next logical level. Director Dave Road has decided not only to take his talent (namely adult performers Katrena Starr and Jack Levitt) coast to coast for sex in different locations – but he has upped the ante considerably by having them perform in front of (or as near as possible to) historic landmarks, such as the St. Louis Arch and the Brooklyn Bridge. It not only makes for fun and exciting viewing, but adds a level of danger to the action that you just don't get in other porn films.

I missed the first volume of this series, in which the gang traveled from California to Missouri; but apparently by the time this volume begins, Katrena and Jack have already fucked in front of the Hollywood sign, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Grand Canyon. This volume begins at the St. Louis Arch – and in case you think these young porn filmmakers are doing this all with pre-approved permission from someone – they all get busted for disorderly conduct (and indecent exposure, no doubt) from the St. Louis police in the first few minutes of this volume. Not wishing to spend the rest of this DVD in jail, they opt for the next best thing and film Katrena and Jack having sex on a balcony overlooking the arch. It's not exactly what they wanted to get on camera...but don't worry, they get away with plenty as their trip continues.

The next stop is the Sears Tower in Chicago, which is the tallest building in the United States. They are hoping to find a secluded corner in which to shoot, but soon realize that their best shot will be in the bathroom – but have to dress Katrena up as a man first, so no one will get suspicious. After leaving Chicago, it's on to Niagara Falls, where they find a nice spot overlooking the water to have sex.

Considering people get mugged and even murdered there in broad daylight, I wasn't surprised that Katrena and Jack had no problem getting busy in New York's Central Park. What is surprising is that Katrena picks up another woman in a New York coffee shop (she goes by the name of Tatiana Stone) and the girl agrees to get it on with Jack for the camera. Katrena gets rather jealous of this, but by the time everyone is ready to do the next scene on the Brooklyn Bridge, all parties have made up.

The sexual adventure continues with a visit to Woodstock, Plymouth Rock (they actually make out on the rock...which has to be some kind of federal violation, one would think!), and finally to Quoddy Head State Park in Maine – which is the easternmost point of the United States.

All in all, there are at least a dozen sexual scenarios in the movie, and even though most involve Katrena with Jack, I never found myself getting bored or hitting the fast-forward button at any point. I don't know if director Jack Road ever plans to make a follow up to this two volume series (Vol. 1 is available separately), but I would love to see this same scenario through the southern states (Katrena and Jack at Disney World! Katrena and Jack at the Alamo!) or possibly a European adventure (Katrena and Jack at Stonehenge! Katrena and Jack at the Eiffel Tower! Katrena and Jack at the Vatican...no, that's probably going to far, huh?!).

One of the best gonzo releases I have seen in a long time, I can't recommend this title more highly...it was a lot of fun!

VIDEO/AUDIO

Although it's entirely shot on hand-held cameras, the video quality here is nicely done, and the transfer to DVD shows little pixelation or other problems. The audio is presented in 2.0 Dolby, and is also nicely done, with no evidence of dropouts that one might expect from such a presentation.

THE EXTRAS

Extras on the DVD include a 4 ½ minute behind the scenes featurette during which director Dave Road and his extremely cute girlfriend Esther Heart (who also is along for part of the shoot, but doesn't perform on camera) show how they edit together the movie from all the raw footage. Also included on the DVD are a featurette showing Road picking up a copy of Adventure Sex 1 in a local Hustler Hollywood store and taking it home and showing it to Katrena and Jack; plus a slide show and six trailers for other Hustler releases.

Adventure Sex 2 also comes with a CD that contains the different songs you'll hear in this second volume. The songs are decent, but I'm not sure they are worthy of a CD – although I suppose it's nice that the director give props to some of the songwriters and performers on this release.

BRIAN'S BOTTOM LINE

This title is both fun and sexy, plus the "replayability" factor on this one is extremely high. It's one of the more imaginative gonzo releases I have seen in quite some time, and it's one of the few must-have adult DVDs I have come across in the past year or two. In short, Adventure Sex 2 is something you'll want to pick up!
