This Vivid release is something of a different beast. With the recent production date of these discs you'd think that it was newer material. As it stands these scenes date back to 1996 and when you take that into consideration you'll understand that the presentations values are all over the map. Some scenes are riddled with grain, most of the contrast is terrible, colors aren't properly balanced, images are extremely soft, and because there is so much jammed onto two discs there're a ton of compression artifacts. The audio doesn't fare much better and comes across as muddy or full of static at times. All around this release has some issues which isn't a surprise considering the dates of the material but it doesn't help matters when it comes time for review.

Body of Review:

Compilations are nothing new to the porn industry. Every month we receive countless titles full of scenes packed onto discs either revolving around a theme or performer. Vivid has taken the compilation to the next step and rather than present a release with a complete handful of scenes the Star 69 series seeks to overload the senses.

Presented in the form of a two disc special edition, Star 69 DD collects some of the greatest moments in big-breasted sex from Vivid's catalog. This sounds great, right? Well, what if I were to tell you that Vivid squished 69 scenes onto these two discs and in the end the whole affair turns out to be little more than a sampler? Each of these fantastic scenes has been chopped and edited to the nth degree and what was once 20 or so minutes of cohesive sex has been simmered down to three to six minute snapshots.

The laundry list of girls available here is quite frankly too big to list. With 69 scenes and most including more than one starlet it's easy to loose track of which scene you're watching and who's on deck. Making matters worse is the fact that the selection screen doesn't even tell you which performer is featured in that particular scene. Sure a blurb appears before the action begins but even then you're only going to get a flash of names rather than even the title of release that the scene is from. That means if you particularly enjoy one of these scenes you're not going to be able to find out where it originated from so you can check it out in its entirety. If you ask me, that's a shame because there is some high quality stuff here.

Despite the fact that each of these scenes translates to three or so minutes of heavily edited sex there are some highlights to be sure. For instance a threesome with Briana Banks, Darla Crane, and Rafe stood out early on in the first disc. Alexis Silver turns out a nasty appearance, Chasey Lane lezes out with Kianna, the ridiculously endowed Minka brings some extra large Asian flavor, and along those lines there's an amazing Asian threesome between Minka, Kaylani Lei, and Mimi Miyagi. Mercedes has a fine one on one scene with Trent, Jezebelle Bond and Tanya Danielle make fantastic lesbians, and for that matter so do Texas Presley and Lanny Barby.

All in all there are several bits of action here that are quite stunning. The only problem is that considering each scene is edited to the point that there is no foreplay and the sex cuts from position to position it feels very cheap. Personally I would have rather seen Star 69 presented with two discs and only twelve to fifteen scenes. If this release was stretched out across volumes and we actually were given complete scenes along with titles they originated from this series may have been worth something. As it stands only viewers who want a quick snapshot or suffer from ADD need apply. Despite the potential this release had there's very little point in checking it out.
