Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in 1.33:1 ratio full frame color. For the most part, the picture looked very crisp and clear with only minimal grain and lighting issues (and those were rare). The fleshtones were accurate and I only noticed a couple of artifacts on 2 of the dvds. The audio was presented with a choice of 5 different languages, each having a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo track (and optional subtitles). It sounded very solid with the vocals and music well balanced and easily heard. The sole problem was the dubbing. In short, the dubbing added a new dimension to the movie in that it made said movie unintentionally funny far too often. Had the movie gone for the laugh, as many Wicked Pictures movies do, I think it would have been better for the audiences. Luckily, the sex was good enough to cover such shortfalls.

Body of Review: Private is no doubt one of the biggest and best producers of feature porn in the world. Every once in awhile, they pull out all stops to release a blockbuster movie, one that has anything you could possibly want and then some. In recent years, they have released such movies in parts, and then combined them in a single value-oriented set. Such is the case with the company's latest venture, The Private Gladiator Trilogy. The movie is set in 180 AD, and focuses on a Roman General who is quickly on the ascension to become Caesar (the supreme leader). A jealous man in power decides to usurp the General's destiny and sets in motion a power play to become leader himself. By stripping the General (played by Toni Ribas) of all his rank and power, then sending him to become a slave who must fight in the arena to entertain the citizens, the thought is that the General will die an early death and never bother him again. Needless to say, the General survives, and thrives, which makes him become a threat to those who stole his position. If all this sounds familiar, that's because it's straight from the mainstream hit starring Russell Crowe. Keeping in mind that porn tributes are usually low budget and really poorly made, I was prepared to goof on this production before opening the wrapper. What I found, in terms of the sex, was a great set of 18 scenes, a bunch (and I do mean a bunch) of babes, and production values that would make Wicked Pictures, makers of similar movies such as Hercules, proud.

The sex included oral, straight, anal, DP, lesbian, orgy, and all kinds of permutations I've come to expect of Private. There were no condoms and while the dubbing was usually bad (perhaps some of my anime making friends could give them a few pointers or lend them some voice actors), I'd be lying if I said I thought most fans are going to spend a lot of time with the plot, or at least more than once. More often than not, the consumer pulls out his old remote control (and no, that's not another term for a certain body part) and speed through the talking parts. I'm not going to breakdown the scenes by cast this time, suffice it to say that if you've ever watched a Private film before, you'll know how attractive the gals are, and that most of them do almost anything you would want to see. Granted, if you're looking for circus act sex, including double anals, triple vaginals, and swallowing multiple loads, you'll be disappointed. If you're happy with oral, straight, anal and DP's with facials and no condoms, you'll be happy with this dvd set.

Summary: Okay, for the totality of the package here, I find it difficult to give it anything less than the rating of DVD Talk Collector Series. It had a huge budget, cast, tons of gorgeous women like Rita, Dora, and Sophie, along with a cast of studly guys that can handle them. It looked good, the sex was great, and any other rating would be unfair, given the tremendous value this set has. I hope you enjoy it.
