Audio/Video Quality: Jack's Playground 31 was presented in 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen as shot by Robby D. for release by Digital Playground. This was shot with at least as much care as most volumes of the series (in HD), using more light and reducing the grain considerably in many cases to some of the few weaker volumes in the series. This held true for the video noise and other visual matters although I know Robby tends to add those to instill a sense of gonzo and texture to the series. Without resorting to listing the hardly noticeable visual elements that didn't work 100%, suffice it to say that some scenes were incredibly well handled and the others were still above average (and that says a lot considering Robby's credentials in camera work). Some scenes employed POV or near-POV camera work as well as special effects that looked kind of cool too. The fleshtones were accurate and I saw no compression artifacts so even the DVD mastering was on par with the usual Digital Playground treatment. The 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound was pretty good but it was also apparent that the vocals were recorded in monaural and the track processed later to provide the 5.1 so don't think you're going to showcase your home theatre set up with this one any more than you would with a typical gonzo production made elsewhere. The vocals were typically easy to hear (with a few exceptions) and the special effects were cut way back this time to allow the action to speak for itself.

Body of Review: Robby D., Joey Pulgadas and Nick P. are sometimes referred to as the trio of terror when it comes to scathing comedy porn but they also manage to hit a fair amount of homeruns in terms of stroke value when left alone to do their thing. Their most recognized works to date all center on the Jack's Playground and related spin off series where their occasional caustic remarks poke fun at any number of topics (and people, I should know) but taken in context, tend to provide a visual treat with some serious entertainment value. The latest in the series is Jack's Playground 31: Special XXX Superstar Edition, the second special edition to grace the regular series in recent memory (the last being Volume 25). The idea behind these editions is to really go all out and provide a scene from a past contract star that had been unreleased to this point. Well, this time, Jack goes it one better by also providing a second such scene (with Devon) and two, yes TWO, scenes starring Jana Cova. That said, here's a glimpse into why I liked the show so much, noting that a couple of condoms were used:

Scene One: Bianca Pureheart, a lean gal with a sweet looking ass, was up first as she auditioned for music video work by showing off her fine body to Jack and Scott Nails in the nice house (having left the lame apartment behind some time ago). Her all natural body was very appealing, even when being goofed on in a "white girl can't dance for shit" clip (that was totally unexpected by the way), and her oral skills were put to the test when she dropped to her knees to service Scott's pipe. It was largely handled in near-POV fashion (sounding like some looped slurping noises were tossed in for good measure) with her using her hand as well as her mouth to get him rock hard. They then vaginally screwed but it wasn't as good as it could've been since he did almost all of the work (until she eventually kicked in to bounce a few times on his cock). This led to her taking the facial and closing out the scene. There was some chemistry between the two but it could've been better had she fully participated during the penetration portion of the scene.

Scene Two: Jana Cova, the lovely blonde hotty featured on the right hand side of the front DVD cover, was up next as she teased the camera with her wonderful body in an effort to get into a music video. The scene began by the outdoor pond and moved inside where she started disrobing. One look at her ass and you'll know why so many people are jumping on her fan-wagon (the porn equivalent of a bandwagon) but her face and chest were also really sweet too. She masturbated and showed off her perfect muscle tone, reminding me over and over why I want to move to the Czech Republic with her.

Scene Three: Devon, wearing a pink top and dark shorts as she interviewed by the outdoor pool, was beaming with positivity over her chance to work with a particularly well cut Tommy Gunn, who was cleaning the pool. Her picture on the front DVD cover (in the middle) didn't do her justice compared to how she looked in real life as Jack and Tommy pawed her implants. Her dirty talk was kind of appealing too and once they took the show inside, the real fun began as Tommy snacked on her crack when she bent over in front of his face. Her oral was pretty good and the near titty fuck she gave him as a tease was decent (though a real lengthy one would've been better). The vaginal screw on the carpet was another case where she could've been more active in pushing back on him to make it a better scene but Devon with her ass in the air has long been appealing to my sensibilities. The scene ended when he rubbed out a load to her tongue and she sucked him one last time. Devon's departure from Digital Playground was long predicted (much like her getting the boot from Vivid before that) and since then she has run into other career difficulties though word on the street is that she's considering signing up with Teravision to spite DP so keep an eye out for her under a new name soon.

Scene Four: Taryn Thomas, the lovely brunette hotty that has been in Jack's various endeavors a lot lately, was up next as she stalked Jack in order to be in the music video business. She was wearing a revealing blue and black outfit that showcased her tight body and beautiful face really well, causing Jack and Eric Masterson to try and dodge her. The cameltoe action was hot and the dialogue was hilarious as Eric turned it on to get some action with her. She blew him with the practiced ease of an up and comer; again making me wonder why she's been passed up for several awards. The energy and enthusiasm were both present in copious quantities with Eric wearing the sole condom of the movie's recently shot scenes to pork her tight pussy. She also showed some active screwing with her dirty talk, making her an award winning lay if I've ever saw one. Granted, the "oh yeah" was a little repetitive but otherwise, she was a class act. It was funny to see the scene end with a pop shot inside a condom (outside of an Ed Power's movie, does that happen anywhere else?) but she took it into her mouth, gargled, and then put it back before swallowing. Nice!

Scene Five: Isabella, a lean hotty playing a stripper wanting video work, was up next as Robby was made to provide stripper music for her to tease too. The Christmas carol was kind of wacky but the boom chicka boom was funny. Her ability to peel off her clothes seductively was lacking but given a look at what she had to offer, I really wasn't complaining as I admired what she had to work with. This was looking to be a solid solo scene when the magical Jana Cova rang the doorbell and told her story of woe (kicked out of her home due to a mean boyfriend; note to Jana, you'd like staying in Houston, TX). Jana questioned the duo for her state of undress, leading to a fine lesbian scene between the ladies. Getting a double dose of Jana in a single Playground title struck me as a great idea to follow up on with the other contract stars (or special guest hotties) so maybe this is the start of something great. In any case, the ladies showered together and had lots of licking fun with one another, rubbing, teasing, and otherwise causing me to bust a nut as they lathered up so seductively. There was more use of the booty and breasts against glass (please include more of this in the future) too. In all, there was some great chemistry and replay value here.

Scene Six: Rocki Roads, the brunette on the left hand side of the front DVD cover, was up next as she played with a masked Vince Vouyer in a dungeon with lots of BDSM paraphernalia. This was the latest in the "Joone's Vaulted Treasures" series, since she hasn't been in porn for years. It was offered up in the same full frame ratio it was shot in so very long ago and the two were actively into one another as they sucked and fucked better than many of porn's newcomers seem able to do nowadays. Her oral skills were always top flight and this scene was no exception with him giving as well as he received. This led to the movie's second condom clad scene with both of them aggressively bumping uglies like they shared some passion and/or chemistry. It ended with a titty pop and her fans can rest assured that the scene was well worth their time.

Scene Seven: Jasmine Byrne, perhaps the hottest Latina in porn these days, was up last in a scene that employed some psychedelic camera effects to showcase her fine young ass and body as though the scene were shot in the 1970's. This gave way to a more conventional look at her treasures, complete with anal plug and booty bouncing, showing why so many men are picking her as a favorite these days. Scott Nails walked in during the "audition" and cock blocked Robby, taking over as he is apt to do, though the tease alone was enough to bust a nut to. It was a playful scene and she gave him a decent hummer though not as lengthy as usual since she continued to break out laughing. She met him thrust for thrust in the vaginal as well as anal positions, finishing with a mouth pop shot that lasted forever. It ended with a swallow and proved to be the icing on the cake in terms of finishing off this terrific volume in the series.

Summary: Jack's Playground 31 had more fuck for the buck, top level fuck for the buck at that, than any of the previous editions in the regular series according to my recollection. The quality of ladies used, the amount of footage, and yes, even the thematic return of Montel (the hero of the show) and Cody Bangs (in another wonderfully dry performance showcasing why he should be the subject of a full episode), all made this one the "killer ap" of the series. I would've liked better extras too but considering the show lasted almost a full two hours was reason to appreciate the positive changes made to the series. The funny lines like "Thank you Devon for being such a whore" and the sly remarks most viewers won't catch were also funny. Those of you who like to see the built in goofs will find several, with the most noticeable being the month of April on the cover but the month of June on the credits (these are added in by Nick, Joey, and Robby to see who pays attention; every volume has several or more, though I think they should hold a contest some day in regards to them). So, the show having all this and more, I felt it earned a Highly Recommended. In short, Jack's Playground 31 offered up the triumphant return of Montel as a regular, a list of "A" talent ladies, more fuck for your buck than you can shake a dick at, and a return to the comedic approach that served the series so well in previous volumes.
