The Movie:

This latest, but not necessarily greatest, reimagining of Gerard Damiano's greatest film stars Belladonna in the titular role as a journalist hoping to make it big. In search of fame and fortune and all the good stuff that generally seems to go along with it, she winds up making a pact with the devil herself (played by Savannah Sampson) but of course, as any good Catholic knows, when dealing with ol' Scratch, there are always strings attached.

That's the basis of the plot - going into too much detail would spoil a few of the surprisingly interesting kinks and twists that director Paul Thomas (he who also helmed The New Devil In Miss Jones a few years back) has conjured up for his latest porno with a plot. Vivid has obviously put a bit of money in to this production, and while it may not have the goofy CGI effects of something like Pirates it doesn't need them as the story works on a more cerebral level and is all the better for it. It does need to be said, however, that the ending is particularly twisted and returns the franchise to its horror movie roots (and yes, Damiano's original picture works beautifully as a horror film just as it does a slice of hardcore erotica - maybe even more so!).

But you're here for the sex, right? Can't blame you for that. So without further ado, here's the obligatory rundown of who fucks who and who they do it:

Scene 1 - Belladonna And Kurt Lockwood: This film doesn't waste any time getting down to the nitty gritty - in fact, it gives us the best and most intense sex scene of the entire feature right out of the starting gate. Bella and Kurt are a couple quite obviously in love and when the mood hits, as it does here, they show no hesitation in going for it. Bella starts things off with some oral and they sixty-nine for a bit. She even gives him a rim job right there in the kitchen, brave little thing that she is. From there he slips it up her ass and she takes it like a champ, breaking for some periodic ass to mouth encounters. There's some foot play in here as well for those of you who appreciate such things, but Kurt ends the scene by blowing his load right up her ass. This singular scene is the best thing this reviewer, an avowed Belladonna fan, has seen her do in years. She looks fantastic and she's got a remarkable energy, enthusiasm and willingness here that'll melt your screen. Kurt gives just as well as he gets and these two really go all out.

Scene 2 - Carmella Bing, Rebeca Linares And Kurt Lockwood: As things start to progress, as far as the devil's interference goes, we catch Kurt out in the pool with these two lovelies. A lot of oral starts things off but before you know it he's sticking his dick up another asshole or two and getting another rim job himself. As Kurt gives each lady a backdoor internal massage with his wang, sex toys are used and various body parts are licked and sucked until he shoots his load into their mouths and ends a fairly steamy three way.

Scene 3 - Belladonna, Kurt Lockwood And Nick Manning: As Belladonna tries to make love to her man, things take a strange turn. She goes down on him and he's getting into it but senses that something is amiss. They go back and forth, going down each other and doing a bit more ass licking here and there, and Bella's character sees Kurt as Nick Mannnig a few times. Something is up...

Scene 4 - Belladonna, Penny Flame, Victoria Sin, And Tom Byron: Tom, here playing a perverted priest, finds himself the lucky recipient of some loving from three lovely ladies who start the scene off by getting him hard and sucking him off. Lots of oral here and there before the action really kicks in and the vaginal sex turns to anal. Tom hands it out from a few different angles - missionary, doggy style, cowgirl and reverse - and it's nice to see the girls paying attention to one another here and not just lavishing all of their affections on Tom. All in all, it's a pretty solid scene, nicely shot and well performed.

Scene 5 - Orgy! Belladonna, Carmella Bing, Evan Stone, Kurt Lockwood, Nick Manning, Rebeca Linares, Savanna Samson, Steven St. Croix, Tom Byron, and Victoria Sin all get together for one massive feast of flesh. Evan's dressed as a preacher here, which lends things a perverted and dark slant, but generally this is a fairly standard orgy scene, albeit one shot with a very good cast of top tier performers. Lots of interplay between the ladies who seem just as into one another as they are into the guys, but the guys are hardly put out at all, each one finishing up with an external pop shot. There's a lot of good close in camera work here and nothing is left to the imagination. Lots of oral, as seems to be the case with a lot of the sex in this feature (not that anyone is complaining) and a fair bit of anal action in here as well (again, a recurring theme in the feature).

Scene 6 - Penny Flame And Steven St. Croix: Bringing things to a close is a solid and fairly intimate scene that starts off with some nice oral sex. The blowjob is complimented by a bit of finger play and once the pair is warmed up, Penny lets him inside her from all of the standard angles - doggy style missionary style, cowgirl and reverse - until he eventually pulls out and comes on her stomach.

Well acted, particularly by Belladonna and Tom Byron (who is twisted and hilarious in his role), The Devil In Miss Jones: Resurrection lacks the heaviness and Catholic guilt that made Damiano's picture such a richly textured masterpiece, eschewing the religious allegories in favor of more fucking and sucking. That's not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you want out of your smut and it's certainly a more commercially viable route to take, but there's still enough artistry and bizarre thematic elements tossed in to keep things interesting. The production values are solid, from the wardrobe to the set design to the camera work to the sound design and Thomas manages to keep things moving at a good pace. It's not a masterpiece, and in fact Thomas' last entry into the world of 'Miss Jones' was a fair bit more successful on many levels, but it's hot enough and interesting enough that it's certainly worth a look, particularly for Belladonna fans (that first scene... damn!).

The DVD

Video:

The Devil In Miss Jones: Resurrection looks okay but far from amazing in this 1080p AVC 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Detail does look better than what you'd see on a standard definition release, but the contrast tends to run towards the hot side here and that does take away from things a bit. It's hard to say if it was just really harsh lighting used on the set or if there was some tinkering done in post or what, but skin tones can sometimes look bleached out. That issue aside, there aren't any problems with compression artifacts but sometimes it looks like maybe a bit of digital scrubbing was applied in spots. This isn't a terrible, unwatchable transfer by any stretch, but neither is it reference quality HD and honestly, it should have looked better.

Sound:

The sole audio track on this Blu-ray release is a 48 kHz 448 kbps Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix in English. The audio on this release is fine but it isn't as impressive as the transfer is and it'd be nice to see Vivid embrace lossless audio on their Blu-ray releases. Dialogue and music both stay clean and clear throughout and the levels are all properly balanced. The score is strong, nice and lively and well balanced, and the dialogue, which is actually important at times, is never hard to follow. It'd be nice to hear an HD audio mix on this Blu-ray releases, but that didn't happen.

Extras:

First up is a bonus scene from The New Devil In Miss Jones with Jenna Jameson and Savanna Sampson in which the two get down and dirty with one another outside. Jenna slowly begins to make out with Savanna and a solid girl/girl scene unfolds with Savanna really coming into character and going down on Jenna really aggressively. Some truly acrobatic oral action happens, with fingers and tongues leaving nothing untouched, both working themselves to a climax in a really well directed and steamy scene.

There's also a featurette on here entitled The Making Of The Devil In Miss Jones: Resurrection (29:28) that mainly focuses on Belladonna's personality as it lets her talk about the role and her involvement in the film. We do get some interesting behind the scenes shots as we see the crew setting up for the big orgy and a few of the other performers and cast members pop up here to discuss the movie, but Belladonna is definitely the focus.

Aside from that, look for a still gallery, trailers for four completely unrelated Vivid releases, animated menus and scene selection.

Final Thoughts:

The Devil In Miss Jones: Resurrection isn't a masterpiece but it s a pretty decent feature that's both well made from a technical standpoint and steamy enough from an erotic standpoint that it's worth a look. Vivid's Blu-ray honestly could have been a fair bit better than it is as it really doesn't take advantage of what the format can offer, but the behind the scenes featurette is pretty interesting. Not a perfect package, but a decent one that comes recommended.
