THE SEX

Sort of an adult version of The Big Chill set out in the woods, Bud Lee's Shattered has the friends of a young woman (Brittney Skye) who has recently died gathering out in the wilderness to share some fond memories of her and...of course...have some sexual adventures with each other.

As the movie opens, Barrett Blade is having a conversation with Brittney, but we soon realize she is already dead and Barrett is just talking outloud to himself. We do, however, get to see some sex between the two, although the action is tinted to give it a kind of "otherworldly" feel to it. Although that may serve the plot, it isn't going to make porn fans very happy since the scene isn't in full color.

The rest of the film is pretty much made up of Brittney's friends pairing off with each other, starting with Sophia and Scott Styles outside a teepee. Although Brittney is the box cover girl and star of this movie, the real find here is busty Eve Lawrence, who has a great set of tits and a nice ass as well. Eve also has three scenes on the DVD – more than any other performer in the title. We first see her in a blowjob-only scene with Barrett, which is followed by a lesbian encounter deep in the woods with the "spirit" of Brittney.

Before we get to Eve's final scene, there's a threesome between Lisa Marie, Cole Conner (a female, in case you're wondering) and a male named Damien. The final scene has Eve and Barrett making out on a bed located outside the cabin they are staying in. I was kind of hoping Brittney would show up and join in, but this remained a one-on-one segement.

Bud Lee is one of the better adult feature directors in porn, and has a legacy of making really good couples-oriented movies. While the tone of Shattered is definitely geared toward the couples' market, I couldn't help but feel rather bored by the whole affair. There's not much of a story here, and only Eve's scenes are really worth watching. Fortunately, Ms. Lawrence does have three scenes...so this is still worth a rental.

VIDEO/AUDIO

Both the video and audio are just a little bit better than average for an adult DVD release. The video is presented in the full-frame format, while the audio is in 2.0 Dolby sound. Neither are spectacular, but neither have any noticeable glitches which would distract from the enjoyment of the movie.

THE EXTRAS

For a movie that is fairly average as adult features go, I was really impressed with the amount of bonus material Sin City has packed onto this DVD. For starters, we get a Feature Length Director's Commentary with Bud Lee that is rather entertaining to listen to, and will give you an idea of what a pleasant fellow Mr. Lee is in real life. There's also separate Interviews with all the female cast members, as well as Biographies for all the talent that appears in the movie (males included). The DVD also contains a 7-mintue behind the scenes featurette, a pair of photo galleries (one hardcore, one softcore), five Trailers for other Sin City titles (Kiss Me Deadly, Fantasies Inc., Chill, The Resort and Dream Girls), and a Pop Shot Recap selection. All in all, a pretty top-notch job with the bonus material.

BRIAN'S BOTTOM LINE

While the movie itself isn't going to warrant a whole lot of repeat views, there's still plenty here to make Shattered worth your time. I recommend a rental first – although fans of Eve Lawrence may want to consider adding this to their collection.
